Treaty United Hoping to Continue That Winning Feeling

It’s been a busy week both on and off the field for Treaty United as significant league victories for both the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Teams was accompanied by the announcement of the signing of a long term lease agreement with the LEDP on the spiritual home of Limerick football, the Markets Field. So, there is a real feel-good factor around the club and they will be hoping to continue that winning feeling when both sides play important games this coming weekend.

First up on Friday night at the Markets Field, Tommy Barrett’s Senior Men’s side host Longford Town in an important league fixture as Treaty United look to consolidate their play-off position. They come into the game on the back of their biggest home win of the season to date, a 4-0 victory over UCD FC, with two goals from leading scorer, Lee Devitt, and one each from Karl O’Sullivan and Trpimir Vrljicak.

Manager, Tommy Barrett, was happy with the victory and is looking to build on that performance for the Longford Town visit.

You’ve got to be happy any time that you put four past UCD who are a quality side. It was great to bounce back after the Kerry defeat although I thought the 2nd half performance against Kerry was very good and we brought that into the UCD game. The difference was that we took our chances against UCD. We will look to build on that against Longford Town, start on the front foot and get the fans behind us. It won’t be easy as Longford are on their own unbeaten run lately and will be hard to break down”

Treaty will be only too aware of Longford’s threat as they fell to a 2-0 defeat when the sides met earlier in the season in Bishopsgate. That game marked one of Treaty’s poorer performances of the season but Tommy will be hoping that his side are embarking on a run that is consolidating their hold on one of the play-off spots as the league approaches the mid-point of the season. The game in Markets Field kicks off at 7.45PM. There will be a number of familiar faces meeting up on Friday as Dean O’Shea, Andy Spain and Dean George have lined out for Treaty United in the past, while Treaty’s Ben Lynch and Evan O’Connor have previously played for The Town.

Meanwhile, Sean Russell’s Senior Women’s side turn their attention to All Island Cup action on Saturday when they travel to Lissywollen to play Athlone Town. The Treaty side will be buoyed by their 3-1 away victory over Galway United last weekend with goals from Madison McGuane and a a brace from leading scorer, Isabella Flocchini. That game marked the Treaty side’s best away performance of the season and saw the Senior Women’s Team record their first ever league victory in Eamon Deacy Park.

Manager, Sean Russell, was very pleased with the performance.

“We were very happy with the performance against Galway. Overall, I think it was a very complete performance. We played with good intensity and showed good quality in key moments. The challenge this week now is to build on that level of performance vs. Athlone. We know that when we play to the best of our ability, we can cause any team problems. Athlone this week is a great test for us. They are a really good side in good form, so we are looking forward to the challenge.”

The game marks Treaty’s second of three in the All Island Cup group stage. The first game resulted in a scoreless draw when Waterford FC visited the Markets Field. The fourth team in the group are NIFL Women’s Premiership side, Glentoran Women, who will be visitors to the Markets Field next month. Athlone Town, lost their opening All Island Cup game so are under pressure to get a win. Taking on the current Women’s Premier Division league leaders will be a significant challenge and Treaty will need to be at their best to come away with a win but confidence will be high after last weekend’s victory. The sides have already met earlier in the season in Lissywollen in the league when the home side staged a second half comeback to win 3-1 after Treaty had taken the lead in the opening period. Saturday’s game has a 7.30PM kick off and will be available on LOI TV.
