The Teams

Treaty United

It was a return to winning ways for Treaty United last Sunday as they defeated Sligo Rovers by the odd goal in three at The Showgrounds. Goals for Cara Griffin and Anna Rockett either side of half-time were enough for Treaty, but they did have to defend for portions of the game as Sligo pulled a goal back. Despite some shaky moments at the back, it was a good performance from Treaty whose only regret will be that they didn’t score more on the day.

Saturday’s game will undoubtedly be a step up from their trip to Sligo, but Treaty will be keen for revenge having narrowly lost out to Athlone in their first league encounter. They have arguably turned in their best performances against the top sides but will need to be clinical and have a bit of luck on their side if they are to advance.

In terms of team news, Grace Gleeson watched from the stands for last Sunday’s win while Hannah Saidi, Laura O’Neill, Esra Kangal and Ayaka Ikeza were all absent too.

Athlone Town

Athlone Town recorded a massive win away to Shelbourne last week to move them one step closer to their first ever Women’s Premier Division title. They came from behind to get all three points as Brenda Tabe and Kerry-Anne Brown struck for the Midlanders to pick up a big three points.

Manager Ciaran Kilduff will have his eyes on a league and cup double in 2024 and will be eyeing up this fixture as a way to extend their recent good form. If they are to do so it will be without Chloe Singleton who suffered a horror injury in last week’s win, while Casey Howe was a notable absentee in the game with rumours linking her with a move across the Irish Sea.

Previous Encounters

This will be the twelfth encounter between the sides, and it is a fixture that has favoured Athlone greatly. Athlone were 3-2 winners home and away when the sides met in 2020, and the sides played out two thrilling draws in their first meetings in 2021. The Midlanders have won seven straight games since then and have kept a clean sheet in five of those.

Treaty United Wins – 0

Draws – 2

Athlone Town Wins – 9
