The Teams

Treaty United

It was defeat in the cruellest of manners for Treaty United last Saturday who lost out to Wexford FC with a last minute strike at the Markets Field. A calamitous goal gave Wexford the lead through Ceola Bergin but Treaty deservedly levelled ten minutes from time through a Danielle Steer penalty. Ellen Molloy ensured the points went to Wexford with a last gasp wondergoal to break Treaty hearts.

Dominic Foley will take consolation from the manner of his team’s performance and will look to boost confidence against a team from outside of the Women’s Premier Division, while the cup tie might also give him the opportunity to give minutes to players who have not featured much for his side this season.

Ferns United

Ferns United play in the WWSL Premier Division and became the first Wexford side to qualify for the Women’s FAI Senior Cup by reaching the semi-finals of the FAI Women’s Amateur Cup, losing out in the last four stage to eventual runners-up Whitehall Rangers.

Ferns are otherwise off the back of a successful season where they picked up a quadruple of trophies, winning the Premier Division, Premier Shield and Wexford Cup, as well as winning the Leinster Junior Cup for the very first time.

They boast some players with Senior League of Ireland experience with Amy Wilson having lined out for Wexford Youths in 2017, grabbing a brace in the quarter-final of this very competition against Manulla. Similarly, goalkeeper Jean Kavanagh made one senior appearance for Wexford but spent plenty of time in their underage ranks and most recently lined out with Bray Wanderers at U19 level in 2022. Liz Cadigan will pose a goal threat for Ferns having won the golden boot in the Wexford Premier Division.
