Munster Derby at the Markets Field as Treaty United Host Kerry FC
It’s Munster Derby time at the Markets Field as Treaty United host neighbours Kerry FC in the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division at 7.45PM on Friday night. Tommy Barrett will be hoping to reverse his side’s fortunes after last week’s disappointing performance in Bishopsgate against Longford Town. In a game of few overall chances, Treaty failed to take a couple of excellent ones before Longford were awarded a penalty mid-way through the second half. As Treaty chased the game, a late late breakaway goal sealed the victory for the home side.
The visitors also tasted defeat last weekend when they went down 1-0 at home to UCD in Mounthawk. The Kingdom began their league campaign well with a win over Finn Harps and a draw against Cobh Ramblers but have since managed just one victory in their last five outings. That win was an excellent away result against Wexford, incredibly the sides first league victory on a grass surface.
The league’s youngest clubs come head to head for a 10th time on Friday evening with Treaty winning 4 of the games to date and Kerry claiming two victories. The sides last met on September 6th, 2024 at the Markets Field. Kerry grabbed the opening goal just before the hour mark and looked like they would take all three points until Evan O’Connor found the net in the tenth minute of additional time..
There will be a lot of familiar faces meeting up on Saturday. Treaty United’s Valerii Dolia, Trpimir Vrljičak and Steven Healy (loan) have all previously played for Kerry FC. Kerry’s assistant manager Chris Collopy has been involved with Treaty United in the past, while Darragh Foley has lined out at academy level for the club.
There is likely to be strong travelling support at this one and with the weather likely to be more akin to summer than early April, get yourself down to the Markets Field to support your local League of Ireland side and help cheer Tommy Barrett’s side back to winning ways .
