The Teams
Treaty United
It was a second consecutive defeat for Treaty United on Saturday as Éabha O’Mahony’s goal on the
hour mark gave Shelbourne three points at the Markets Field. Treaty created some good chances in
the first half, and had a glorious chance to equalise late on, but failed to punish Shelbourne when
given the opportunities. It marked the side’s fourth defeat of the season, all of which have come by
the odd goal which will be some consolation to Dominic Foley and his troops.
Treaty played out a scoreless draw against this Saturday’s opposition during pre-season and they will
be delighted if they can achieve a similar result when they meet once more in Lissywollen.
Athlone Town
Athlone Town tasted defeat at home to Galway United on the opening night of the season but have
gone unbeaten since then with eight wins and two draws in all competitions.
Now sitting in third place (behind second place Galway United on goal difference), they will see this
Saturday’s game as a huge opportunity to extend their good form and potentially move to the top of
the table if results elsewhere are favourable.
Casey Howe will pose a great threat up top for Athlone. The Northern Ireland international has
recorded seven goals from eleven appearances in all competitions.
Previous Encounters
This fixture hasn’t been kind to Treaty who are without a win in their ten meetings with Athlone,
getting a draw in just two of those. Both of those draws came in the 2021 season and Treaty have
lost all six encounters since then, losing by the odd goal on one occasion.
Treaty United wins – 0
Draws – 2
Athlone Town wins – 8
