Treaty United
Tommy Barrett’s side still cling to slender hopes of a play-off spot after last week’s results went the way of the Limerick side.
A hard fought 3-2 victory away to Longford Town was supplemented by Athlone Town’s 6-0 defeat to league winners Galway United.
This leaves Treaty five points behind the midlanders in 5th with nine points to play for.
However, even if Athlone were to slip up in their remaining games, Treaty will have to beat Finn Harps tonight and most likely overcome champions Galway and second-placed Waterford to maximise their chances in the last two games of the league season.
Treaty’s goal difference is also seven worse off.
It’s a tough ask, but you can never rule out this squad who have shown time and time again that they can spring a surprise.
Enda Curran and Jordon Tallon are both injured. Darren Nwankwo is struggling with a knee problem.
Finn Harps
The Donegal side will no doubt be very disappointed with their season having dropped down from the Premier Division just under 12 months ago.
Only League of Ireland new boys Kerry have conceded more goals this season than Harps’ 70 and they have been pretty goal shy too, hitting the net just 34 times in 33 games.
Darren Murphy has been in temporary charge since the departure of Dave Rogers in September who stepped down from the role.
They were knocked out of the FAI Cup at the quarter final stage, effectively ending their season, but a 2-1 home win over Kerry last week has raised spirits somewhat.
BJ Banda scored in that game. Limerick senior soccer fans will remember him as the man who sent Limerick FC down in the relegation/promotion play-off in 2015 with a late goal in Ballybofey, a memory that still haunts many.
Past Meetings
The clubs have only met three times in league competition.
A 2-0 defeat for Treaty in Ballybofey with goals from Ryan Rainey and Filip Fjeldheim Da Silva deciding the first game.
This was followed by a 3-0 home defeat for Treaty in May.
However, a Dean George goal earned a rare win for a Limerick side in Ballybofey back in August.
