The Teams
Treaty United
Treaty United sit in eighth position on 32 points, eight points off of the final playoff spot. Treaty’s playoff hopes took a major dent last Friday as they went down 3-1 to Wexford FC at the Markets Field despite taking the lead through Lee J Lynch early in the second half. It marks just the second time this season that Tommy Barrett’s men have scored first and lost.
With just eight games remaining in the season, Treaty can ill afford to drop many points from here on out and a win in Bray, along with results going in their favour elsewhere, could catapult them back into the playoff picture.
In terms of team news Fionn Doherty is likely to return from suspension for Friday’s game, but Trpimir Vrljičak could see three games on the sideline following his red card near the end of last Friday’s defeat. Mark Walsh was an unused sub in last Friday’s game as he edges closer to a full return, while it remains to be seen if Jack Kavanagh will be in Friday’s matchday squad having missed last week’s game.
Bray Wanderers
Sitting in fourth place with 41 points, Bray are six points clear of their nearest playoff chasers in Cobh Ramblers. They come into this game off the back of a big win away to Athlone Town, handing the Midlanders just their second home defeat all season. They suffered a torrid run of form up to late July which included being dumped out of the cup by Shelbourne, but since then they have turned their form around with big wins over Wexford FC, Finn Harps and the aforementioned Athlone Town.
They have lost the services of top scorer Peter Grogan but Guillermo Almirall has proven to be an important player of late scoring the decisive goal in their last two victories.
Previous Encounters
This Friday marks the fifteenth encounter between the sides. Treaty have had a good record against Bray, particularly at the Carlisle Grounds where they have picked up a result in five of their seven trips to the seaside venue. The side’s last trip to Bray ended in defeat as the home side ran out 2-1 visitors with Leon Kirrane scoring what proved to be a consolation goal for Treaty.
