Treaty United

Things are looking up for Treaty once again after a brilliant comeback in a 2-2 thriller against second-placed Waterford at the Markets Field.

The match was a rearranged fixture from a postponement earlier in the season and the point gained through two brilliant second-half goals from Success Edogun may prove pivotal in the final standings. 

New goalkeeper Corey Chambers’ brilliant penalty save to stop Waterford from putting the game beyond doubt and academy product Robbie Lynch’s superb assist for Edogun’s first goal are also deserving of a mention. 

Treaty dominated the game for large periods and there is a sense of the team coming into form just as the business end of the season begins. 

The well-deserved draw built on momentum after an entertaining 3-1 victory over bottom side Kerry at the Markets Field last Friday night which marked 100 competitive games for the men’s senior side.

This followed an impressive 1-0 away win to Finn Harps with a superb Dean George goal being backed up with a solid defensive performance to take away all three points from Ballybofey – a very difficult place to go for Limerick sides in recent years. 

Cobh Ramblers

Big things were expected in Shane Keegan’s first full season at the helm of the club overlooking Cork Harbour and, for the most part, the former Treaty academy head has delivered.

The signing of Jack Doherty from Wexford was regarded as quite the coup and that type of ambition has so far been rewarded with Cobh sitting third.

However, there is little room for error with Longford Town and Treaty looming eight points behind and a win on Friday night would go a long way to making the remainder of the season a more comfortable run-in. 

Cobh went the entirety of August without a win in the league, the one shining light being their Munster Senior Cup final win over local rivals Cork City.

Past Meetings

In 10 competitive outings between the sides, Treaty United have won four, Cobh three and and there have been four draws.

Earlier this season, Cobh arrived at the Markets Field and left with three points through a 3-0 victory which left the home crowd frustrated in an otherwise decent performance by Treaty. Wilson Wareru gave the visitors the lead on 61 minutes.

While Treaty pushed for an equaliser, Ramblers caught them on the break with two late goals from Jack Doherty wrapping up the win.

Doherty was at the centre of the early exchanges in the next meeting between the sides at St Colman’s Park in April.

Treaty’s defence was caught out in the second minute in that encounter as a set piece delivery found Doherty who swivelled and hit the net from close range. 

A Colin Conroy volley on 19 minutes was no more than Treaty deserved, though, as both sides had to settle for a point. 

A Liam Kervick goal on 80 minutes nicked all three points for Cobh back in June in Limerick
