The Teams
Treaty United
Sitting in ninth place on seventeen points, this Saturday’s game will be Treaty United’s first fixture in three weeks. Their last outing came on September 14th when Athlone Town were the visitors and put three past Treaty in front of the TG4 cameras. It was a rare off day for Dominic Foley’s side who will look to right some wrongs on Saturday, but that sizable gap between fixtures will undoubtedly be a hinderance.
While silverware is out of the question for Treaty, there is still plenty of motivation for this side ahead of their final two games. They sit just one point ahead of DLR Waves, one point behind Cork City and two points behind Bohemians, and so the desire to move up the table and to not be overtaken by DLR will be a motivating factor on Saturday.
Annie Ulliac departed the aforementioned meeting with Athlone Town due to a calf injury early in the second half and was replaced by WU19 goalkeeper Jenna Murphy, who made her senior debut. Murphy performed well and could do little to prevent the goals conceded that night, and if Ulliac does not recover in time for Saturday’s game then Murphy may step up again. Goalkeeper Katie Irwin is likely to miss the remaining two games of the season with a finger injury.
Galway United
Sitting in third place with 38 points, it will take a miracle in the last two games for Galway United to re-enter the title race. Galway suffered their fourth league defeat of the season last weekend when Kate Mooney’s strike gave Shelbourne all three points at Eamonn Deacy Park. It was a much deserved win for the visitors, while Galway will rue that defeat along with other dropped points across the season which ultimately impacted their title chances.
Nevertheless, Phil Trill will want his side to finish the season strongly and will see this as an opportunity to pick up a further three points and a third win of the season over Treaty. Julie-Ann Russell will undoubtedly be one to watch with the Galway girl earning a recall to the Irish Senior Women’s National Team this year off the back of some marvellous performances for the Tribeswomen.
Previous Encounters
The sides have met just four times since Galway United replaced Galway WFC. United have come out on top in all four meetings and kept Treaty scoreless in every meeting until Danielle Steer found the Galway net when the sides last met in early September.
