Treaty United
A good performance and a point against Wexford on Monday night brought a run of three defeats to an end with Treaty United perhaps feeling that a draw was less than they deserved in the bank holiday sunshine at the Markets Field.
A Marc Ludden penalty levelled the game on the 77th minute after Wexford had taken an early first-half lead through Darragh Levingston.
It’s been an up and down season for Treaty United with form affected by personnel changes.
The injury headaches continue for Tommy Barrett this week with Mark Walsh, Fionn Doherty, Success Edogun, Conor Winn, Denzil Fernandes and Anto O’Donnell all out.
Darren Nwankwo, Willie Armshaw, Enda Curran and Andy Spain are all doubts for Friday night’s game.
A win is vital with just eight points separating ninth and third place in the league. Treaty currently sit in seventh.
Cobh Ramblers
Big things were expected in Shane Keegan’s first full season at the helm of the club overlooking Cork Harbour. The signing of Jack Doherty from Wexford was regarded as quite the coup and that type of ambition has so far been awarded with Cobh sitting fourth and comfortable in the play-off spots for now.
However, the Cork club’s form has been patchy in recent weeks. Their last outing at home to Longford, a 1-0 win, stopped a run of four without a win that had started with a 5-0 humbling away to Waterford.
Despite this, Ramblers are well positioned to be in the mix for a potential promotion.
Past Meetings
In 10 competitive outings between the sides, Treaty United have won four, Cobh two and and there have been four draws.
Earlier this season, Cobh arrived at the Markets Field and left with three points through a 3-0 victory which left the home crowd frustrated in an otherwise decent performance by Treaty. Wilson Wareru gave the visitors the lead on 61 minutes.
While Treaty pushed for an equaliser, Ramblers caught them on the break with two late goals from Jack Doherty wrapping up the win.
Doherty was at the centre of the early exchanges in the next meeting between the sides at St Colman’s Park in April.
Treaty’s defence was caught out in the second minute in that encounter as a set piece delivery found Doherty who swivelled and hit the net from close range.
A Colin Conroy volley on 19 minutes was no more than Treaty deserved, though, as both sides had to settle for a point.
