The Teams
Treaty United
Sitting in 8th place on 17 points, Treaty United suffered defeat mid-week at the hands of Galway United in Eamonn Deacy Park. United raced into a two goal lead inside 37 minutes, but Danielle Steer pulled one back before the break. Treaty were reduced to ten just after the hour mark and Galway capitalised on same, grabbing two goals in the final ten minutes to give a 4-1 final score which probably flattered the hosts.
Treaty will have to do without Erin Van Dolder who received her marching orders during Wednesday’s defeat, while a number of players pulling up late in the game suggests that Dominic Foley may have to rotate his team for the trip to Dublin. One stat that Treaty will hope can come good on Saturday is their away record which has proven to be better than their record at the Markets Field, while their defeats on the road have only been by the slimmest of margins.
Shelbourne
Sitting in 2nd place on 32 points, Shelbourne are two points off of league leaders Athlone but with one game more played than the Midlanders. Shels had to settle for a share of the points last Saturday away to Bohemians as Kate Mooney’s opener was cancelled out by former Red Alannah McEvoy from the spot. It marks Shelbourne’s fifth draw in the league this season – more than any other side – and while manager Eoin Wearen will be happy to add more points to their tally, this number of stalemates may ultimately hinder their title chances.
Shelbourne boast the second best goalscoring record in the league, but most remarkably they have the tightest defence in the league with just six goals shipped. Four of those goals have come in their last three league games and they will be keen to record a first clean sheet since late July.
Previous Encounters
Shelbourne have won all ten encounters between the sides, but the games have been more competitive in recent years with the scorelines reflecting same. Two of the last three meetings between the sides have been by the odd goal.
