Madison McGuane Wins SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division Player of the Month for May

It’s been a really successful few weeks for Treaty United’s Madison McGuane as she has just added the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division Player of the Month Award for May to her Republic of Ireland WU17 International Player of the Year Trophy earlier in the month. This follows on from Madison captaining the Rep of Ireland WU17 team against Belgium, Finland and Switzerland in a UEFA Development Tournament in Finland in late May.

The Player of the Month award is a remarkable achievement for Madison who only started her SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division career in March of this year. Madison has taken the step up from WU17 football to senior football in her stride and quickly established her as a mainstay in Treaty’s midfield delivering quality performances which defy her youth.

Madison started and starred in 3 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division games in May along with one All Island Cup game. Madison scored twice in the Women’s Premier Division games, both coming from the penalty spot, demonstrating the level of confidence which manager, Sean Russell, places on Madison’s young shoulders.

Sean Russell believes that Madison is a thoroughly deserving winner and describes her qualities and what she brings to the team.

Madison carries herself with such maturity for a young player. She has made a fantastic impact on not only our team but on the league this year. Her technical abilities have really caught the eye of everyone in the league and she’s shown on the top stage in this country that she is ready. It’s clear to see the talent she possesses when you watch her play.

Having worked closely with her over the last 12 months, it’s her attitude that has impressed me the most. She is incredibly driven. Her application to training and doing every detail to the best of her ability is a fantastic example to any young player who wants to progress in the game.
