Academy Report 29th March
International News
Congratulations to MU20 captain, Matt Jones, who started for the FAI Schools team in their Centenary Cup clash away to Scotland last Thursday. The FAI Schools team, unfortunately, fell to a 1-0 defeat.
This weekend was supposed to be a break weekend for the EA Sports League of Ireland Academy. However, two of our teams were in action, fulfilling fixtures that were postponed on the opening day of the season.
MU15
First in action were our MU15s who travelled to Bishopsgate to take on Longford Town in Group C of the MU15 league.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Daniel O’Connell, Conor Kennedy, James Palache, Alex Meaney, Mieszko Kurylonski, Paddy Gubbins, Evan Hogan, Mighty Odudu, Cathal Donnelly, Ben Doumbouya (C), Wisdom Amaeze
Subs:
Alex Clancy, Mark Regan, Conor Campbell, Danny Hammond, Conor Brady, Kaylum Matha
The best game and performance by our MU15s to date but, unfortunately, we went down 2-1 to two goals conceded from free kicks. Longford’s first was an own goal. Our situation wasn’t helped as we were without Jordan Brown and Mark Regan, our two strongest and top defenders. Mark broke his finger the day before the game and Jordan was suspended.
We played some brilliant football but lacked physicality in our forward line. We continue to build on our method of play with some excellent ground football. We are very proud of them every week as we are growing and reducing errors. Our goal this week came from midfielder Conor Kennedy.
The MU15s are back in action next Saturday when they host Longford Town in the reverse fixture.
MU20
Our MU20s also took on Longford Town in their League campaign when they travelled to Bishopsgate.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Carl Williams, Fintan McNamara, Rory McKeon, Matt Jones (C), Brandon Long, Valerii Dolia, Roy Lawlor, Darren Nwankwo, Scott Murphy, Kyle Foley, Sean Costelloe
Subs:
Michael Mulcahy, Kaden Deegan Herlihy, Cian Mulvihill, Nathanael Mthembu, Joey Nwankwo
The MU20s finally got their season started with a comprehensive 7-1 victory in Longford. The hosts took an early lead after a defensive slip on a difficult pitch. Treaty kicked into gear with two goals from Sean Costelloe and a goal from stand in goalkeeper Carl Williams direct from a goal kick. Treaty put Longford to the sword in the second half as Sean Costelloe bagged his third and Scott Murphy helped himself to three second half goals. Notable performances were Darren Nwaonwo and Rory McKeon who was making his U20 debut.
The MU20s host Longford Town next Saturday in the reverse league fixture.
