Academy Report: 27-28 April

Four of our 6 Treaty United Carelon Academy teams were in EA Sports League of Ireland Academy league action this weekend while the MU15s were in Abbotstown as part of a Development Weekend activity. It was 2 wins and 2 draws from the 4 league games.

MU20

First into action on Saturday were our MU20s who travelled to Mounthawk Park in Tralee to take on Kerry FC. This was a reverse fixture to a game played back in February when we came away with a 4-1 home victory.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Michael Dike, Isaac O’Sullivan, Richkov Boevi,  Conor Carew, Alex Cuddy, Mark Murphy (C),  Donnacha O’Leary, Adam O’Halloran, Kian Mitchell, Sean Costelloe,  Mark O’Halloran.

Subs:

Adam Brennan, Luke Ryan, Conall Stapleton,  Brandon Rossiter, Jay Martin, Sean O’Haodha, Gavin Mellerick

Result:

Kerry FC 1 Treaty United 1

The MU20s started well and took the lead midway through the first half when Alex Cuddy got his first of the season. However,  the home side equalised before half-time with a stunning strike to send the sides in level at the break.

Treaty as expected controlled much of the possession but were unable to break down a resolute and dogged Kerry defence. In fact, it was Kerry who squandered a glorious chance late on to take all three points. Notable performances from Treaty United’s Isaac o Sullivan and Alex Cuddy.

Next up for the MU20s is a home game when they welcome table-toppers Cobh Ramblers to the Manor Fields on Saturday at 2PM.

WU17

Later in the afternoon, it was the turn of our WU17s who travelled to Elmdale to take on St. Patrick’s Athletic. The sides had met on the opening weekend of the season when we recorded a 2-0 home victory.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Niamh Kinnehan, Kate Jones, Emma Meaney, Ava Neary, Kristina Bokman (C), Kate Lee, Ewelina Stankevituite, Annabelle Mulcaire Quille, Saoirse Kent, Ciara Breslin, Rachel O’Shea,

Subs:

Aine Bonfil,  Summer Behan, Aibhlinn Cotter, Grace Ehinger, Mioda O’Shea, Aideen Riedy, Madison McGuane, Chloe Widger, Chloe Wallace,

Result:

St. Patrick’s Athletic 1 Treaty United 3

Our WU17s got off to a good start with an early Rachel O’Shea goal after a lovely team passage of play from our 6 yard  box, right up to theirs. A series of one twos up the right found Ewelina Stankevituite free around the half way mmarkand she played a perfectly weighted through ball to O’Shea who cooly slotted the ball past the St. Pat’s keeper after a 1v1 with her.

Our WU17s enjoyed some good spells of possession but lost a foothold of the game late in the first half. A fine individual piece of play by the opposition’s number 3 dispossessed us, broke through the Treaty defence and curled the ball into the top right corner leaving Kinehan with no chance to save.

It was a squad effort that got us the win with a number of changes made during the game which saw appearances from Aibhlinn Cotter, Summer Behan, Grace Ehinger, Aideen Reidy and Mioda O’Shea.

We went one ahead with another brilliant piece of play after we were gifted possession from the home team. This time a sequence of possession up the left side found Ciara Breslin at the end line to square a low ball across the 6-yard box for a first time strike from right winger, Aideen Reidy to slot home with ease.

The 3rd goal to secure the win, came from another nice break down the left after Rachel O’Shea managed to play out from the back in a tight space. The ball broke to Grace Ehinger who took it on before releasing with the outside of the boot through for striker, Ciara Breslin, to run on to. Breslin worked her own bit of brilliance with some top class footwork to find herself space to finish on her left to the top left corner of the net with a powerful finish.

The win solidifies the WU17’s hold on second spot.

Next up for the WU17s is a home game against league leaders Athlone Town in the Manor Fields at 4.30PM on Saturday.

Sunday saw two of our academy teams in action.

MU17

The MU17s were the first academy side in action on Sunday defending their position at the top of the Group C table with Wexford FC the visitors to Manor Fields in Adare. Wexford FC had triumphed in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Wall, Brandon Long, Jamie Faulkner, Matt Jones, Tiernan Adelu, Charlie Campbell, Michael Mulcahy, Fionn Higgins, Danny Lyne, Cullen Wiegand, Jack Keogh

Subs:

Conor Crofton, Kieran Doyle, Joey Nwankwo, Alex Omoruyi, Colin Healy,  Patrick Ryan

Result:

Treaty United 3  Wexford FC 3

The MU17s came away with a single point from a tough fixture v Wexford FC. After an even first half, Treaty took the lead through Fionn Higgins. Wexford were in the lead not long after with two errors at the back being punished by the away side. Treaty got back on level terms through Tiernan Adelu’s 9th goal of the season. Charlie Campbell headed home a third to give Treaty the lead with 20 minutes to go. Wexford got back on level terms through a late corner which gave them the share of the spoils on the day. The result meant that Cork City joined the U17s at the top of the Group C table.

The MU17s are in action again next Sunday when they take on Limerick FC in a local derby.

WU19

Our WU19s travelled to Cobh to take on Cobh Ramblers hoping to repeat their early season home victory over the same opposition.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Holly O’Brien, Avril Tangri, Molly Lane, Sophie McIlrath, Sadbh Griffin, Siobhán McMahon, Aisling Hardiman, Judith Egan, Abbey Walsh, Ella Carey, Lisa Coen

Subs:

Katie Irwin, Katelynn O’Dwyer Guerin, Naoise Griffin, Vittoria Rainusso, Yanna Leahy, Jayne Ryan

Good performances from Sadbh Griffin and Siobhán McMahon. Katie Irwin showed her quality when she was introduced at the break pulling off a really top save to keep Cobh at bay. Katelynn O’Dwyer Guerin also made a really positive impact to the midfield when she came on.

Ella Carey opened the scoring after she pounced on an error at the back from the home team. Yanna Leahy doubled the our advantage with another well placed free kick from about 25 yards out, her second goal from a free kick this season showing her dead ball speciality once again.

Thanks to all who travelled to St Colman’s Park on Sunday to support the girls, it’s much appreciated. We travel back down to the rebel county next week again as we face Cork City in Bishopstown next Sunday.

MU15

The MU15s had a very enjoyable day at FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown on Saturday as part of  the EA Sports LOI MU15 Development Weekend. They played Wexford FC, Bohs and Shamrock Rovers across the day with points awarded for specific in-game achievements.

The U15s are back in league action this coming Saturday when Mayo FC are the visitors to The Manor Fields in Adare at 1.45PM.

MU14

The MU14s had a free weekend this weekend and will be back in action next Sunday when they travel to Castlebar to take on Mayo FC.
