Academy Report 26th – 27th April 2025
Sad News
We start this week with some very sad news with the passing of Pat Irwin, dad to our MU14 player, Ciaràn. On Friday night, at our Senior Men’s Team home game against Athlone Town in the Markets Field, Ciaràn’s teammates laid a wreath in Pat’s memory in the centre of the pitch before the game. Our sympathies are with Ciaràn and all the Irwin family. May Pat rest in peace.
International News

Congratulations to MU20 captain, Matt Jones, who was awarded man of the match in the FAI U18 Schools 1-0 victory over England in their Centenary Cup clash last Thursday night. Matt ended the game as captain of the side as the starting captain had to leave the field injured.
5 of our 6 Treaty United Carelon Academy teams were in EA Sports League of Ireland Academy league action this weekend.
MU15
Our MU15s hosted Sligo Rovers in Group C of the MU15 league at the Manor Fields in Adare.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Daniel O’Connell, Conor Kennedy, Danny Hammond, James Palache (C), Alex Meaney, Mieszko Kurylonski, Paddy Gubbins, Mighty Odudu, Mark Regan, Gavin Scanlan, Wisdom Amaeze
Subs:
Alex Clancy, Jordan Brown, Cathal Donnelly, Ben Doumbouya, Evan Hogan, Conor Brady, Kaylum Matha, Conor Campbell
An excellent performance from our MU15s as they made it 3 wins on the bounce with a comfortable victory over Sligo Rovers in a 4-1 scoreline.
Just 7 weeks ago, the MU15s lost by the same scoreline to the same opposition so this shows the great progress which the group are making and the learnings being taken on board. Working on our Key Performance Indicators in training has led to improved performances on the pitch.
Mark Regan opened our scoring after 18 minutes and Alex Meany doubled our advantage in first half stoppage time. We continued our dominance after the break and Paddy Gubbins increased our advantage early in the second half. Substitute Jordan Brown added our fourth in the 89th minute.
The only downside was that the concession of a silly penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
The MU15s are back in action on Saturday, May 3rd when they travel to Lissywoolen to take on Athlone Town.
WU17
Our WU17 hosted Kerry FC at the Manor Fields in Adare.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Emma Jones, Ellen Hackett, Caila Neligan, Kate Lee, Mylie Treacy, Kristina Bokmane (C), Aoibhe O’Leary, Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Aoife Frawley, Ellen Goggin, Eleanor Blake
Subs:
Ruby Linnane, Eibhlin Butler, Jennifer Hogan, Alex Sheehy, Mya Lee, Mioda O’Shea, Orlaith O’Connell, Ewelina Stankevituite,
Our WU17s put in a good footballing performance against a strong and direct Kerry team in Adare but had to settle for a share of the spoils in the League of Ireland U17 Women’s Group B.
Treaty started well and had some good early chances but the Kerry keeper and strong Kerry defence were a good match for the girls. Aoife Frawley in centre forward and Ellen Goggin from midfield tested the keeper on a number of occasions but Treaty couldn’t get the early goal their football deserved. Kerry’s confidence was lifted by their successful defending and they started to get chances of their own but Emma Jones in the Treaty goals was more than capable to keep out anything on target with some long range efforts, assisted by a strong first half breeze, ensuring the Treaty girls stayed on their toes. The Kerry attack was physical and their press was difficult to cope with at times and on 37 minutes a mixup in the Treaty box saw the Kerry forward block a clearance and somehow the ball spun over Emma in goals and came off the upright before spinning into the goal to give Kerry a surprise 1-0 lead. Treaty tried to get level before the break but again the dogged defending from the Kerry side saw them go in with the slender 1 nil lead.
Treaty made a few changes at half time and on came Alex Sheehy and Jennifer Hogan in defence and the talented Orlaith O’Connell & Mioda O’Shea on the wings with the powerful Eleanor Blake moving into centre forward as Treaty chased the equaliser and potential winner. Again Treaty played some excellent passing football to create a number of chances but the Kerry keeper was determined to keep them out with some fine saves from Eleanor, Ellen Goggin and Annabel Mulcaire Quille. Eventually Treaty’s pressure and quality football paid off on the 82nd minute when a super ball from the right from Mioda found Orlaith O’Connell at the back post and she took 1 touch to control the ball and a second to bury it in the roof of the net. Treaty ran to retrieve the ball and get the game restarted quickly as the win was what they wanted and deserved. But try as they did with some vicious inswinging corners from Eleanor and Ellen along with some good opportunities inside the box, the compact and determined Kerry team kept them out and the game finished level with the Treaty girls feeling disappointed with the draw.
Up next the Treaty girls face a tough home game versus Waterford on Saturday, May 3rd where the girls will look to get back to winning ways. Their football continues to be fantastic to watch and they always entertain the good crowds who come to watch this talented group.
Sunday saw another three of our academy teams in action.
WU19
Our WU19s took on Waterford FC at the Manor Fields in Adare.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Niamh Kinnehan, Molly Lane, Emma Meaney, Sadbh Griffin, Ava Neary (C), Grace Ehinger, Amy Tierney, Ella Carey, Suvi Isabella O’Connor, Lily-Anne O’Meara, Sirena Celebrini
Subs:
Chloe Widger, Jayne Ryan, Abbey Walsh, Chloe Wallace, Saoirse Kent

Our WU19s suffered their first loss of the season to Waterford. The final score was 2-3 with Treaty going behind after only 8 minutes of play. Treaty found themselves down by 2 halfway through the first half after another Waterford line breaking run.
Treaty fought back hard and were rewarded with a fine goal scored by Lily Anne O Meara with Grace Ehinger providing the assist.
Treaty were back in form and unlucky not to equalise but unfortunately an O.G. pushed Waterford 2 goals ahead once again.
After halftime, Treaty came out fighting and forced a number of efforts on the Waterford goal but failed to finish any.
Abbey Walsh’s introduction turned out to be pivotal to Treaty’s hopes and she scored a wonderful goal thanks to a super assist from Saoirse Kent with 10 minutes remaining.
Treaty were again unlucky not to finish with a point but Waterford were to keep the shop locked for the remainder of the game.
While Treaty will be disappointed with the result, the second half performance will give some inspiration ahead of the away trip to Bray next week.
Our WU19s are next in action on Sunday, May 4th when they travel to the Carlisle Grounds to take on Bray Wanderers.
MU20
Our MU20s also hosted Sligo Rovers in their League campaign when the midlanders visited the Manor Fields.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Conor Wall, Fintan McNamara, Colin Conroy, Darren Nwankwo, Sean Costelloe, Ben Lee, Scott Murphy, Roy Lawlor, Fionn Doherty, Kyle Foley (C), Kaden Deegan Herlihy
Subs:
Brandon Long, Tiernan Adelu, Seanie O’Haodha, Matt Jones, Michael Mulcahy, Ian O’Sullivan, Cian Carmody
Our MU20s played out an entertaining draw with Sligo Rovers in Adare on Sunday. Treaty took a deserved lead when Scott Murphy added to his impressive tally with a fine strike from the edge of the box. Murphy and Roy Lawlor found the Sligo keeper in top form as they failed to add to Treaty’s lead. Sligo equalised early in the second half after slack defending from a corner. Both teams pressed on for a winner but it was not to be and it ended with a point each for both teams.
Our M20s are back in action on Saturday, May 3rd when they travel to Lissywoolen to take on Athlone Town.
MU17
Our MU17s hosted league leaders Cork City at the University of Limerick arena.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Conor Crofton, Kian Dempsey, Conor O’Mahony, Tadhg McElligott, Rory McKeon (C), Joe Murphy, Warren O’Mahony, Alex Omoruyi, James Rochford, Nathanael Mthembu, Gavin Ryan
Subs:
Darragh Van Veen, Mark O’Callaghan, Colin Healy, Timmy O’Sullivan, Christian Stack, Joey Nwankwo, Sean Meere, Xavier O’Nialagain, Tony Hourigan
Our MU17 got off to the worst possible start when they conceded an O G. Inside the opening minute. This seemed to knock our confidence and Cork notched their second in the 8th. From there on though we started to build patterns in our game and got back into it with a goal from Nathanael Mthembu in the 38 minute. Just when it looked like we’d be heading into the interval with a one goal deficit, we conceded in first half stoppage time.
Cork were awarded a disputed penalty early in the second half but we dug deep and pulled a goal back through Gavin Ryan. Plenty of positives and areas to work on as we went down to a Cork City side who have a 100% record so far this season.
Our MU17s continue their league campaign on Sunday, May 4th, when they travel to Mounthawk to play Kerry FC.
