Academy Report 22-23 March 2025

International News

Congratulations to MU20 captain, Matt Jones, who started for the FAI Schools team in their Centenary Cup clash versus Wales in Tramore last Thursday. The FAI Schools team, unfortunately, fell to a 1-0 defeat. They are back in action next Thursday when they travel to play Scotland.

All 6 of our 6 Treaty United Carelon Academy teams were in EA Sports League of Ireland Academy league action this weekend.

WU17

First into action this weekend were our WU17s who continued their 2025 league campaign with an excellent performance and a 6-nil victory versus a dogged CK United side in the Manor Fields, Adare.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Ruby Linnane, Eibhlin Butler, Caila Neligan, Jennifer Hogan, Aoibhe O’Leary, Rachel O’Shea, Kristina Bokmane (C), Mya Lee, Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Ewelina Stankevituite, Orlaith O’Connell

Subs:

Ellen Hackett, Alex Sheehy, Mioda O’Shea, Mylie Treacy, Aoife Frawley, Emma Jones

Our WU17s put in a super performance to beat a tough and determined CK United team at home in Adare to make it back to back wins in the League of Ireland U17 Women’s Group B.

In previous games, the Treaty girls had started slowly but not on this occasion as Ewelina Stankivicute had the home side 1-up inside 5 minutes after her well-timed press from a CK kickout saw her intercept a pass and slot home from close range. That early lift should have opened the gates for more Treaty goals but it was far from the case as CK rallied and had a number of chances to equalise but were met by the outstanding Ruby Linnane in the Treaty goals with one particular save from close range leaving the CK forward staring in disbelief that she hadn’t drawn the sides level. But Treaty rode their luck to for the rest of the first half to go in at the break 1-up.

After a pep talk, a reset and the introduction of substitutes Ellen Hackett, Mioda O’Shea, Alex Sheehy and Mylie Treacy the Treaty girls came out firing in the second half with Aoife Frawley racing on a to an excellent through ball from Kristina Bokmane to put the Treaty girls 2 up on 46 minutes. 2 minutes later Treaty went 3 up when a sublime pass from Orlaith O’Connell put Annabel Mulcaire Quille through on goals and she fired home from just inside the box. On 54 minutes Aoife was at it again when another super through ball from Orlaith saw Aoife advance on the CK goal but to be taken down inside the box as she was about to shoot and the referee had no option but to award a penalty. Aoife dusted herself down and buried the penalty to put the hosts 4 up and now comfortable as they began to spray the ball around. Jennifer Hogan was commanding at the back alongside her centre half partner Aoibhe O’Leary and Jennifer was able to get forward more and use her excellent range of passing to slip Aoife through again for her to race through on goal and slam home for her hat-trick on 57 minutes. CK heads began to drop now which is understandable given how quick the Treaty girls had gone 5 clear and on the restart from the 5th goal, Annabel intercepted a CK passing move and slipped Rachel O’Shea in to slot home the 6th with a well placed left footer from inside the box.

Treaty were now well on top and sensing more goals but credit to the CK keeper who made some great saves to keep the scoreline down, in particular a brilliant low save from an Emma Jones placed effort after great set up work from Mioda O’Shea. The fulltime whistle went soon after to mark the end of an accomplished performance from the Treaty girls with Aoife’s hat trick the highlight along with excellent performances from Annabel Mulcaire Quille and Caila Neligan. Well done also to Eibhlin Butler and Emma Jones who finally made their LOI debut following recovery from injuries sustained in a pre-season challenge.

Next up for the girls is a home game when they meet Cobh Ramblers in the Manor Fields Adare on Saturday, April 05th where the girls will look to make it three in a row. Thanks again to our injured squad players Kate Lee and Eleanor Blake for continuing to support their team mates and to the parents and large crowd who were very supportive on the day.

MU15

Our MU15s travelled to Moynevilla to take on Galway United in Group C of the MU15 league.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Alex Clancy, Conor Kennedy, Jordan Brown, James Palache (C), Alex Meaney, Mieszko Kurylonski, Evan Hogan, Cathal Donnelly, Conor Campbell, Mark Regan, Wisdom Amaeze

Subs:

Daniel O’Connell, Gavin Scanlan, Danny Hammond, Conor Brady,  Kaylum Matha, Paddy Gubbins

Another progressed performance from last week with our football play coming together and we were very unlucky to come away with a 3-2 defeat. Essentially,  the difference between the sides were 2 Irish internationals in the Galway United squad (6 ft 3 and 6 ft) who were very effective and scored two of their side’s goals.

We played this game without 2 key players as they were unable to train during the week. However, we have great depth and trust that we are building into the squad and we were very happy with how players are learning to play 2 positions in a plan for adaptation and development.

Sadly, the third goal and decisive goal came from a corner kick that was originally given as a goal kick for us but the referee decided to change his decision. Overall, despite the defeat, it was a very inspiring day and again most importantly our team left the field proud of how they played the game.

The MU15s are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Bishopsgate to play Longford Town in a fixture that was postponed at the start of the season.

MU20

Our MU20s also took on Galway United in their League campaign when they travelled to Oranmore.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Wall, Fintan McNamara, Seanie O’Haodha, Matt Jones (C), Michael Mulcahy, Brandon Long, Kaden Deegan Herlihy, Chris Horgan, Darren Nwankwo, Scott Murphy, Kyle Foley

Subs:

Shane Franklin, Sean Costelloe, Cian Mulvihill

An injury ravaged MU20 team travelled to Galway and came out on the wrong side of a 5-1 defeat. Treaty started much the brighter, hitting the crossbar twice early on, but the hosts struck first after some poor defending on 30 minutes. Galway made it two on the stroke of half time after a very tight offside call went against the visitors.

Treaty started the second half brightly and had a goal ruled out for handball in the build up. Treaty’s defensive frailties were on show again as Galway broke to make it 3. Scott Murphy gave Treaty a glimmer of hope scoring from the spot but that slight hope was extinguished directly from tip off when Treaty’s defence parted like the Red Sea allowing a Galway 4th. Galway sealed the result late on.

The positive from the game was the return of Darren Nwanko after almost six months out of action.

The MU20s travel to Bishopsgate to play Longford next Saturday in a re-arranged fixture.

Sunday saw another three of our academy teams in action.

MU14

Our MU14s travelled to the SETU Arena to take on Waterford FC.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Emmet O’Donnell, Marco Lopez, Harry Millan, Fionn Kennedy, Paddy O’Sullivan, Ciaran Irwin, Liam McCague, Jack Sheehy, Dion Hannon, Sean Kelly (C), Adam Rochford

Subs:

Seamus Greene, Hugh Canty, Gabriel Nseka, Gibby Celebrini, Jack Bourke, Sean O’Carroll

The last game in this first round of fixtures for our MU14s. This was a really great game of football. In a late switch, this was this group’s first game on grass this season.

We came up against a physical Waterford side and took the game to them playing all the football, some lovely one and two touch passing around the pitch with all the footballing principals on show.  We took the lead with yet another goal for Marco Lopez and added to it with an excellent goal by Fionn Kennedy.  Both goals came from assists by the tenacious Dion Hannon. Overall, we were very unlucky to come out the wrong end of a five goal thriller.

Players of the match were Dion Hannon and Jack Sheehy.

Our MU14s are next in action on Sunday, April 6th when they host Cobh Ramblers in the Manor Fields.

MU17

Our MU17s also travelled to the SETU to play Waterford FC.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Crofton, Tadhg McElligott, Rory McKeon (C), Warren O’Mahony, Colin Healy, Alex Omoruyi, Nathanael Mthembu, Christian Stack, Timmy O’Sullivan, James Rochford, Joey Nwankwo

Subs:

Darragh Van Veen, Kian Dempsey, Conor O’Mahony, Joe Murphy, Mark O’Callaghan, Sean Meere, Gavin Ryan

First off,  we wish a speedy recovery to goalkeeper, Conor Crofton, who was taken to hospital during this game.  Thankfully, Conor is home now and on the mend.

This was an unbelievable game and a great one to come away from with a 2-2 draw after a series of events went against us.

First off, we had a keeper sprain his finger in the warm up which ruled him out of the squad so we had no reserve keeper on the bench.

Waterford took an early lead when they were awarded a disputed penalty and they doubled their lead before half time.

Our starting goalkeeper, Conor,  was in a collision with a Waterford forward and he suffered a bad concussion resulting in the game being stopped until an ambulance arrived.

When the game resumed, we had to play one of our outfield players in goal for the rest of the game. We adapted tactics with three substitutions for the second half and played on trapping our opponents after analyzing the split Centre Back build up that they were doing.

We dominated the game and scored two goals from Alex Omoruyi and Nathanial Mthembu. The body language and stamina from the team has begun to grow as we are progressing and learning. The team celebration upon scoring was great.

But the biggest victory was when our hero, Conor, who was in bad shape and had no memory of the game itself, asked about the team and the result. This great comeback from the team was dedicated to him.

Our MU17s continue their league campaign on Sunday, April 6th, when Cobh Ramblers are the visitors to the Manor Fields.

WU19

Our final team in action over the weekend were our WU19s who hosted Peamount United in the Manor Fields in Adare.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Chloe Widger, Emma Meaney, Sadbh Griffin, Chloe Wallace, Ava Neary (C), Ella Carey, Abbey Walsh, Jayne Ryan, Lily-Anne O’Meara, Sirena Celebrini, Amy Tierney

Subs:

Rhiann Murphy, Kate Jones, Megan O’Reilly, Molly Lane, Grace Ehinger, A Frawley

A super home win for the WU19s against a well organised Peamount United team.

Treaty started well and within minutes had created a number of chances through Lily Anne O Meara, Jayne Ryan and Sirena Celebrini. However, it was not all one way traffic and Peamount were impressive on the counter attack which was dealt with comfortably by the Treaty defence of Ava Neary, Sadbh Griffin, Emma MMeaneyand Chloe Wallace who made her first start of the season after a long term injury.

Chloe Widger was commanding in the Treaty goal and wasted no time with her deliveries to Treaty’s frontline.

On 36 minutes, the deadlock was broken with a well-deserved goal for Abbey Walsh, who pounced on a defensive mistake to round the Peamount keeper and slot the ball home. With the pressure off, Treaty finished the half well and could have had another with Jayne Ryan shooting narrowly wide just before the halftime whistle after great work from Ella Carey and Amy Tierney in midfield.

On the restart, Peamount came out in full force and piled on the pressure, which eventually resulted in them scoring on a swift counter attack.

Treaty once again moved up gears with the introduction of fresh legs in Grace Ehinger, Molly Lane, Kate Jones and debutant Aoife Frawley, and thought they had scored only for Sirena Celebrinis shot smash off the crossbar. Shots from Ehinger and Frawley (fresh from her hat-trick for the WU17s on Saturday) again saw Treaty on the front foot and the winner came on 85 minutes through Jayne Ryan for her first of the season with a brilliant assist from Ella Carey. Another debutant, Rhiann Murphy, entered the game in goals for Treaty to finish out the game.

Outstanding performances throughout the squad today with Emma Meaney deserving of special mention as Player of the Match.

Our WU19s are next in action on Sunday,  April 6th, when they travel to Shamrock Rovers.
