Academy Report 15-16th March

International News
Congratulations to Ellen Goggin who represented the FAI Schools U15 side who defeated Northern Ireland in a friendly.

All 6 of our 6 Treaty United Carelon Academy teams were in EA Sports League of Ireland Academy league action this weekend.

WU17
First into action this weekend were our WU17s who travelled to the SETU Arena to take on Waterford FC in a Group B league fixture.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Ruby Linnane, Caila Neligan, Alex Sheehy, Jennifer Hogan, Aoibhe O’Leary, Rachel O’Shea, Kristina Bokmane (C), Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Ewelina Stankevituite, Ellen Goggin, Eleanor Blake

Subs:
Ellen Hackett, Orlaith O’Connell, Mioda O’Shea, Mylie Treacy, Eibhlin Butler, Mya Lee, Aoife Frawley, Kate Lee

Our WU17s put in an outstanding performance away to a tough and hugely talented Waterford side to leave the SETU arena in Waterford with a well deserved victory on Saturday last.
In an end to end first half where Waterford started stronger, the Treaty girls had to weather an early storm with some excellent goalkeeping from Ruby Linnane and more last ditch defending from the excellent Caila Neligan and Alex Sheehy at full back and the solid centre half pairing of Jennifer Hogan and Aoibh O’Leary. With the defence doing their job the girls eventually kicked into action with captain Kristina Bokmane and midfield partner Annabel Mulcaire Quille driving the team forward and we created a number of chances from some excellent through balls from the enigmatic Ellen Goggin but Waterford showed why they hadn’t conceded a goal in a number of consecutive games as they defended well and their keeper was quick off her line on multiple occasions.
The half time whistle went with the teams level in both performance and scoreline but the Treaty squad and coaching staff sensed a victory was on the cards and started the second half with an immediate increase in intensity, pushing Waterford back into their half repeatedly and forcing errors which started to lead to good chances. Rachel O’Shea looked sharp on the right wing and cut in from time to time to get shots away as did the pacy Eleanor Blake on the left wing. Ewelina Stankivicute made some excellent runs throughout the gcreated but for some brave goalkeeping from the Waterford keeper, she would surely have opened the scoring for the Treaty girls. Mioda O’Shea was introduced on the left wing and her crossing started to create havoc in the Waterford defence with Kristina Bokmane inches away from one such cross 10 mins into the second half. The Treaty pressure was building and building now and eventually paid off on 70 minutes when an excellent chipped pass from left back Alex Sheehy found one of those Rachel O’Shea darting runs on the right and Rachel half-volleyed into the roof of the net to give the girls the lead. Further substitutions followed with Treaty now using their very strong bench to keep the pressure on Waterford. In came Aoife Frawley, Orlaith O’Connell and Mylie Treacy to keep the push going and on 79 minutes, Aoife’s determined press saw her win a ball on the right hand end line and her perfect drilled cross was met by Ellen Goggin to rifle home and give the girls a 2-nil lead.
Waterford did not allow the heads to drop and credit to them for this as they kept pushing for a way back into the game. Their strength and pace up front continued to trouble the Treaty defence but time and time again the girls just won those 1v1 battles or saw Ruby in goals pull off some vital saves to keep that important clean sheet. The final whistle went to screams of joy from the Treaty girls and large travelling support in both delight and relief as everyone knew this was a big win but a very tough win for this young team.
Next up for the girls is a home game when they meet CK United in the Manor Fields Adare on Saturday, March 22nd where the girls will look to continue where they left off last weekend. Thanks again to our injured squad players Kate Lee & Emma Jones for continuing to support her team mates and to the parents & large crowd who were very supportive on the day.

MU15
Our MU15s also entertained Athlone Town in the Manor Fields in Group C of the MU15 league.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Daniel O’Connell, Jordan Brown, James Palache, Kaylum Matha, Paddy Gubbins, Mighty Odudu, Evan Hogan, Mark Regan, Ben Doumbouya (C), Conor Kennedy, Wisdom Amaeze

Subs:
Alex Clancy, Alex Meaney, Cathal Donnelly, Conor Campbell, Mieszko Kurylonski, Gavin Scanlan,

Our MU15s went down 4-2 to Athlone Town but they can be very proud of their performance. The downfall was the unfortunate concession of 3 set piece goals by minor mistakes, all goalsscored by the same physically dominant Athlone player.
Our boys played an unbelievable game and missed two one–on-one chances against theirgoalkeeper.
With the limited time and circumstances over the past week and Athlone Town being undefeated in three games, it was interesting to see how happy they were upon departure, knowing they played a big game tactically. This is just the start of things to come from this team and our two goals were scored by Cathal Donnelly.
The MU15s are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Moynevilla to play Galway United.

MU20
Our MU20s played the first home game of their League campaign when they hosted AthloneTown at the Manor Fields in Adare.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Conor Wall, Cian Carmody, Sean Costelloe, Ben Lee, Scott Murphy, Seanie O’Haodha, Kyle Foley, Roy Lawlor, Mark Murphy, Isaac O’Sullivan, Dean Owens

Subs:
Darragh VanVeen, Michael Mulcahy, Matt Jones, Fintan McNamara, Brandon Long, Kaden Deegan Herlihy

Our MU20s fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Athlone Town. Despite controlling large portions of the game, we wasted countless chances and were caught twice on the break to give the visitors a two nil half time lead.
Treaty pressed hard in the second half and were rewarded when Scott Murphy eventually pulled one back. The hosts squandered two excellent chances to draw or even win the game late on but again defensive frailties were on hand as we conceded late with everyone pushed on.
A trip to Galway awaits next week where three points will be needed to kick start the season.

Sunday saw another three of our academy teams in action.

MU14
Our MU14s hosted Kerry FC in the Manor Fields.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Emmet O’Donnell, Marco Lopez, Harry Millan, Fionn Kennedy, Hugh Canty, Yanis Mambouna, Gabriel Nseka, Ciaran Irwin, Dion Hannon, Sean Kelly (C), Adam Rochford
Subs:
Seamus Greene, Gibby Celebrini, Jack Sheehy, Paddy O’Sullivan, Jack Bourke, Sean O’Carroll

Another entertaining game in Adare. There was lots of attacking principals on display, a day for absolutely abandoning defensive principles.
We took the lead through Marco Lopez after 16 minutes. Kerry equalised but we went 3-1 up through another Marco goal and a Fionn Kennedy kick. A physical Kerry side then posted into a 4-3 lead but with 1 min remaining Adam Rochford scored a worldy with the last kick of game to level matters. The scenes from the players at the end were great.
Players of the match were Marco Lopez, who now has 4 goals in 4 games and Adam Rochford. Next Sunday, our MU14s travel to the SETU Arena to take on Waterford FC as we continue our league campaign.

MU17
Our MU17s also had Kerry FC as visitors to The Manor Fields.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Conor Crofton, Conor O’Mahony, Kian Dempsey, Tadhg McElligott, Rory McKeon (C), Joe Murphy, Mark O’Callaghan, Warren O’Mahony, Colin Healy, Alex Omoruyi, Nathanael Mthembu
Subs:
Timmy O’Sullivan, Christian Stack

Our MU17s went down narrowly to the visitors. We were very stretched for numbers in this game between injuries and suspension, meaning that we could only name two players on the bench who were togged out.
We started the game slowly and conceded two goals in the first 6 minutes of the game. The team was adjusted and adapted to different player positions based on observations and they dominated the game and pulled a goal back on the 73rd minute through Tadhg McElligott.
While the start to the game was disappointing, the comeback and team character to step up the performance was fantastic.
Our MU17s continue their league campaign next Sunday when they are on the road to take on Waterford FC in the SETU Arena.

WU19
Our final team in action over the weekend were our WU19s travelled to Oatlands College to take on DLR Waves in a Group A league fixture.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Niamh Kinehan, Megan O’Reilly, Sadbh Griffin, Ava Neary (C), Emma Meaney, Kate Jones, Jayne Ryan, Lily-Anne O’Meara, Suvi O’Connor, Sirena Celebrini, Amy Tierney

Subs:
Chloe Widger, Rhiann Murphy, Ella Carey, Abbey Walsh, Molly Lane, Chloe Wallace

Our WU19s got down to business right from kick off and within 11 minutes were ahead through Lily Anne O Meara, who was outstanding on the wing today. DLR closed up the shop for the remainder of the half with Jayne Ryan and Amy Tierney coming close to adding to the Treaty lead.
Within seconds of the restart, the Treaty extended their lead when Suvi O Connor pounced on a cross from Jayne Ryan to score. Treaty were well in control now with full backs Sadbh Griffin and Megan O Reilly creating brilliant attacking play with the Treaty front line while the centre back pairing of Ava Neary and Emma Meaney ensured all DLR attacks were nullified immediately.
A Sadbh Griffin Corner on 69 mins dropped to Sirena Celebrini who rifled the ball to the roof of the net for goal number 3. Abbey Walsh scored goal number 4 after great work from Amy Tierney, who was outstanding today marshalling the Treaty midfield.
Gamechangers Ella Carey, Molly Lane, Chloe Wallace made an immediate impact on the game and the final goal of the game came from a 35 yard piledriver from Carey after a DLR clearance was met from the lively midfielder.
An all-around solid performance from the Treaty team and another clean sheet thanks to Niamh Kinehan in the Treaty goal. Player of the match was Amy Tierney.
Next weekend sees Peamount United as visitors to The Manor Fields as we continue our league campaign.
