Academy Report: 06-07 July
Four of our six Treaty United Carelon academy teams were in action this weekend. Three sides, our MU20s, WU19s and MU14s were in cup action while the MU15s continued the Elite Phase of their league. We had 1 win and 3 defeats across the weekend.
We had two teams in action on Saturday.
MU20
First into action for the weekend were our MU20s who travelled to Athlone to take on Athlone Town in the Enda McGuill MU20 National Cup.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Adam Brennan, Conor Carew, Mark Murphy (C), Mark O’Halloran, Nikodem Kozlowski, Adam O’Halloran, Kyle Foley, Ryan Perez, Charlie Campbell, Brandon Long, Fintan McNamara
Subs:
Michael Dike, Darren Nwankwo, Conall Stapleton, Luke Ryan, Richkov Boevi, Seanie O’Haodha, Tiernan Adelu
Result:
Athlone Town 0 Treaty United 4
The MU20s progressed to the Round 16 of the cup with a comprehensive 4-0 away win in Athlone. A much changed line up with three new signings and two players called up from the MU17s saw a far more energetic display. Kyle Foley opened the scoring on his debut with a typical poachers goal. Niko Koslowski added the second from the penalty spot early in the second half after another debutant, Fintan McNamara, was pulled down. Conor Carew and Adam O’Halloran both capped off excellent performances with second half goals. McNamara was outstanding on his debut and Brandon Long who was called up from the MU17s looks like a real prospect for the future.
The MU20s have no game next week as we sit out a bye week before we travel to Dublin to play Shelbourne on Saturday 20th.
MU15
The second side into action on Saturday were our MU15s who travelled to Ferrycarrig to take on Wexford FC in the second game of their of the Elite Phase of their league hoping to build on their opening draw against Shelbourne.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Daniel O’Connell, Sean Meere, Conor O’Mahony, Kian Dempsey, Sean Potter, Jack Cregan (C), Gavin Ryan, Dylan Browne, Aaron Cobbs-Sarko, Bryan Parish, Xavier O’Nialagain, Nathan Robinson
Subs:
Darragh Van Veen, Christian Stack, Unai Ngache, Patrick Edroso, Darragh Kirwan, Saleem Ojulari, Brooklyn Delahunty
Result:
Wexford FC 4 Treaty United 0
Our MU15s failed to build on a very promising start to life in the Elite Phase of the league when they fell to a heavy defeat away to Wexford FC. Sometimes you lose a game when you play well because you are beaten by a better side. Other times, you lose because you play poorly and, unfortunately, the latter was the case at the weekend.
We started reasonably well and were probably the better side in the opening 30 minutes. Unfortunately, at the end of that period, we found ourselves 1-0 down. In the middle 30 minutes, we fell a further goal behind which meant that we really needed to lift our game for the final 30 minutes.
However, that didn’t happen and we conceded two further goals through mistakes. Overall, a poor performance that we need to learn from for the rest of the league campaign. It is disappointing that we didn’t play to the level that qualified us for the Elite Phase in the first place.
On Sunday, we had 2 of our academy teams in action.
MU14
First up on Sunday were our MU14s who travelled to Bishopstown to take on Cork City in the third game of the Eddie Wallace Cup group stage.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Daniel O’Connell, Sean Casey, Jordan Brown (C), Sam Newman, James Palache, Liam Flynn, Ben Doumbouya, Paddy Gubbins, Mighty Odudu, Wisdom Amaeze, Evan Hogan
Subs:
Conor Campbell, Emmett Hawkins, Konrad Miskiewicz, Mieszko Kurylonski
Result:
Cork City 3 Treaty United 2
Our MU14s continued their campaign with an away fixture against Cork City FC. Credit must go to both teams for playing a possession-based style of football throughout the match.
Cork City broke the deadlock early in the match, taking advantage of a misplaced pass from Treaty United. This kind of error is often a by-product of trying to play good football, but the team stayed committed to their approach. Moments of lost concentration proved costly as Cork City scored twice more, leaving Treaty United 3-0 down.
Despite the setback, Treaty United’s determination shone through. Emmett Hawkins appeared to have reduced the deficit, but his goal was controversially ruled out for offside. Undeterred, Treaty continued to press forward, showing resilience and focus.
Conor Campbell made a gut-wrenching run from left back, thumping home Treaty United’s first goal that counted and injecting new energy into the team. This breakthrough was followed by Evan Hogan, who scored his first goal for Treaty United after some excellent footwork on the edge of the box. Hogan bent the ball around a fully stretched goalkeeper with his left foot, making it 3-2 and setting up a tense finish.
Despite the late surge and a promising performance, the match ended 3-2 in favor of Cork City FC. Treaty United will look to carry this momentum into next week’s fixture, building on the positive aspects of their display.
WU19
Our final side into action for the weekend were our WU19s who played the third game of their LOI Academy WU19 Cup away to Athlone Town.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Annie Ulliac (C), Avril Tangri, Molly Lane, Sophie McIlrath, Ella Carey, Naoise Griffin, Ewelina Stankevituite, Sadbh Griffin, Aisling Hardiman, Abbey Walsh, Siobhan McMahon
Subs:
Jenna Murphy, Madison McGuane, Kate Jones, Jayne Ryan
Result:
Athlone Town 7-0 Treaty United
A bad day at the office for our WU19 squad on Sunday. Athlone fielded a strong team for the game which gave us the opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best 19s squads in the country. Unfortunately the contest was one sided from the off. Our crew were not adjusting quickly to the requirements of the game and struggled to adapt to the situation.
We found things really difficult again physically and were forced to make two substitutions before half time as both Avril Tangri and Molly Lane had to step out with ongoing injury issues. These changes were just part of the problem for the teams downfall on the day and it didn’t help in periods where we tried to find some stability in the game.
We regrouped at half time and spoke about the areas in our game that we had neglected and tried to simplify things. Credit to the squad they picked out the issues themselves for most part and it was a case of reinforcing some clear simple messages for the second half. This helped to make the second half a bit more competitive but overall it was a real examination of where we are at and where we should be at. Credit to the three WU17 players who made the step up for the game; Ewelina Stankeviciute, Kate Jones and Madison McGuane worked tirelessly and made a fine effort in a tough game. We were also forced to call on Senior keeper Annie Ulliac to make the trip up after she played a match the previous day as we were depleted in the goalkeeper department. It has been a tricky period with holidays and injuries coming at a bad time during these cup fixtures.
Thanks to all who made the trip up to the Athlone Town Stadium to support.
Next up is a home fixture vs Galway United in Adare on Sunday at 2pm.
