Academy Report
Three of our academy teams were in league action this weekend while our MU14s were
in FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown taking part in an LOI Academy Development
Weekend. It was a tough weekend results-wise with all three teams tasting defeat.
We had two teams in action on Saturday.
MU20
Our MU20s travelled to Bishopstown to take on Cork City in an important league game
as the battle for places near the top of the table enters the home straight.

Cork City 3 Treaty United 1
The MU20s missed glorious opportunities to take lead early in first half. Cork scored
both first half goals after poor defending. Treaty dominated second half and reduced
deficit after Jamie Halpin slotted home from 20 yards. Treaty pushed for equalizer and
were caught on the break in the dying minutes by a Cork counter attack
WU17
At the same time, our WU17s were hosting Peamount United in The Manor Fields in
Adare. The sides played out a 4-4 draw when they met earlier in the season in Dublin.

Our WU17s came out on the wrong side of a cracking game at home to Peamount
United on Saturday but left wondering how the game got away from us after a high
intensity performance saw us miss a number of good chances in the torrential rain in
Adare. We pressed with intent from the start with the aggressive tactics from new head
coach Sean Russell looking like they would pay dividends immediately. We had 4 good
chances inside the 1st 10 minutes but were unlucky not to score with Madison
McGuane & Ciara Breslin both testing the Peamount keeper who pulled off some good
saves to keep the game scoreless. We played some lovely football along with our
aggressive press but Peamount looked dangerous on the break and scored a great
freekick after 30 mins to take an unlikely lead. Just before halftime our brave keeper
Niamh Kinahan suffered a bad injury when she contested a 50/50 challenge with the
Peamount striker which saw the game held up for over 10 mins as Niamh received
attention from the physio & staff before being carried off. All at the club wish her a
speedy recovery. Chloe Widger (herself playing her 1st game since returning from
injury) took over but unfortunately we went 2 down soon after when a long range shot
took a nasty deflection and ended up in the net.
Credit to the Treaty girls though as the heads never went down and they came out
roaring in the 2nd half. Again we created some great chances but again the Peamount
keeper was in excellent form and it was obvious it was going to take something special
to beat her. That special moment came 15 minutes into the 2nd half when a super
Rachel O’Shea through ball found Grace Ehringer on the left wing and her 1st time
finish from 25 yards flew in over the Peamount keeper to get us back in the game. We
piled on the pressure to try get an equaliser and Madison McGuane was so unlucky not
to pull us level when her excellent dribble & run saw her curled right foot shot just miss
the post. Peamount broke again soon after and to the disbelief of the Treaty girls, they
scored another deflected goal to regain their 2 goal lead on the 80 minute mark. 5
minutes later the game was practically ended when Peamount were awarded a very soft
penalty which their striker calmly dispatched to give them a 3 goal lead.
However Treaty continued to fight & play their passing game and when Ewelina
Stankevituite knocked down another great Madison McGuane corner into the path of
Mioda O’Shea, Mioda buried her chance from 18 yards to give the girls some hope.
Unfortunately that glimmer of hope came too late and the referee blew for full time soon
after with the score at 4-2 to Peamount.
The girls should be proud of their performance and are still in a good position in the
league to try qualify for the elite stage with 3 games to go. Next up is a home game
against DLR Waves late in June after the league breaks for a number of weeks now for
exams.
On Sunday, just one of our academy teams were in league action.
MU17

Group came head to head. When the sides met earlier in the season, they played out a
2-2 draw in the Manor Fields in Adare.

Cork City 5 Treaty United 1
Treaty MU17s were on the wrong end of a 5-1 result away to Cork City. The game was
played in rough conditions with heavy rain falling before kick off. Treaty found
themselves 1-0 down after 4 mins when a pass stopped dead in a puddle before a Cork
player latched on to it to take the lead. Treaty struggled to get a footing in the game and
were 3-0 down before the break.
The second half was completely different game for Treaty taking controlling of the game
and creating some clear cut chances that went astray. Danny Lyne slotted home to
make it 3-1 with 10 mins to go. With the clock ticking down and goals needed Treaty
threw everyone forward and were made pay when Cork added late goals in the 91st
and 94th mins.
MU14:
The MU14s had an excellent Saturday at FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown where they
took part in an LOI Academy MU14 Development Weekend. Over the course of
Saturday they took on Bray Wanderers, Klub Kildare and Wexford FC in games where
different skillsets and activities are encouraged and rewarded.
Our 1st game of the day saw the team play Bray Wanderers. Treaty showed glimpses of
their class but ultimately didn’t produce their finest performance. Despite being away
from their best, Treaty produced a goal of the highest quality when an exquisite pass
from Josh Daly found our attacking full back Evan Hogan who crossed to the perfectly
placed Ben Hogan to score. Bray got a goal back towards the end of the 1st half and
with Treaty failing to capitalise on some second half chances the game finished all
square at 1-1.
Klub Kildare were the opponents for our 2nd game of the day which was played in the
extraordinary indoor facility. Kildare stated the game at a frantic pace, with lots of
intensity and aggression. The young Treaty side began to settle into a possession
based football and a flow developed taking the wind out of the sails of Kildare. The now
settled game allowed Treaty to create some good chances and we’re eventually
rewarded when Konrad Miskiewicz won the side a penalty through some fine center
forward play. Conor Kennedy stepped up and calmly dispatched to give the side a 1-0
lead. The second half continued in the manner the first finished with Treaty controlling
possession and creating chances on the Kildare goal. Having not converted any of
these chances the game finished 1-0. It was a much improved performance and
momentum was building.
As the team headed into their final game vs Wexford there was naturally going to be
fatigue. The players dug deep and put on the performance of the day as they controlled
the game from start to finish. The opening goal of the game was a beautifully worked
goal starting all the way back with the goalkeeper Ross Ryan and worked well through
Defenders Conor Campbell and Sam Newman who progressed the ball into midfield.
Some great combination play involving Emmett Hawkins and Wisdom Amaze saw the
ball worked towards Sean Casey who slotted the ball beyond the Wexford goalkeeper to
give the Treaty side a well earned lead. Treaty saw 2 more goals added in the second
half to win out the game 3-0. Treaty executed some excellent pattern play and used
possession to control the game despite having tired legs. For the final game of the day
to be played in the manner it was is a great achievement for all the players. All players
can be extremely happy with the days performances.
