Treaty United Host Sligo Rovers at the Markets Field
Treaty United host Sligo Rovers at the Markets Field this Saturday afternoon at 3PM as Sean Russell’s side look to continue their impressive start to the season. Treaty United go into this game in fourth place but just one point behind league leaders Athlone Town while Sligo Rovers are in 11th position just one point above basement club DLR Waves.
Last time out, Treaty United recorded a exciting 3-2 victory in a Munster Derby against Cork City with a late Madison McGuane winner separating the sides. This was their third league victory in four games this season. Sligo Rovers suffered a 5-1 reverse to Wexford FC in Ferrycarrig Park in their last game, their third defeat in a row after an opening day draw with Bohemians.
The sides last met on the 18th of August, 2024 at the Showgrounds in the Women’s Premier Division. Goals either side of half-time from Cara Griffin and Anna Rockett had Treaty cruising, but a goal on the hour mark from Keeva Flynn ensured a tense finish to the game with Treaty eventually securing all three points.
Manager Sean Russell must be delighted with his start to his managerial career in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division. He has been brave in his selections, trusting some very young players with starting berths and it has borne fruit with some excellent performances from a number of girls that Sean has brought through from his WU17 squad of last season. His blend of youth and experience has given Treaty their best ever start to a League campaign.
Steve Feeney has returned as manager for Sligo Rovers after a year away and faces a rebuilding task following the departure of key players in the off-season. As a result, Rovers have placed significant trust in their younger talents. The signing of Louise Masterson was a smart move, but an administrative error means she won’t be available until the summer.
Last time out, there were 726 patrons at the Markets Field to cheer on the home side and they were rewarded with a really exciting game. There have been plenty of goals to date in both Treaty United and Sligo Rovers respective fixtures and this one is unlikely to disappoint
