The Teams

Treaty United

Treaty United sit in eighth position on 32 points, five points off of Friday’s opponents who occupy the final playoff position. Treaty extended their good form to six games unbeaten last week when they trounced local side Pike Rovers and booked their place in the Quarter-Final of the FAI Cup. The game was over as a contest on 41 seconds when Lee Devitt scored his first of three goals that evening, and was joined on the scoresheet by Enda Curran, Trpimir Vrljičak (2) and Robbie Lynch.

Tommy Barrett and team will be happy with that result while also aware that much, much tougher tasks lie ahead beginning with this Friday. That Treaty have only lost once in their last eight home games is something that Barrett will hope his side can use to their advantage. Their recent good vein of goalscoring, 11 goals in their last two competitive games, is something they will need considering how strong Wexford are going forward.

In terms of team news, Fionn Doherty will miss out on this encounter due to the red card he received against Longford Town. Mark Byrne, Stephen Christopher and Yoyo Mahdy were notable absentees from last week’s win and it is yet to be seen if they will return for this crunch playoff clash.

Wexford FC

Sitting in fifth place with 37 points, Wexford secured their place in the Quarter-Final of the Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup last week thanks to a 3-0 win away to Ballyfermot United. That victory made it three straight wins (and four games unbeaten) for Wexford who are hitting form as the league enters the final quarter of the season.

Wexford are the leading scorers in the First Division with 45 goals and have only failed to score on three occasions in the First Division. Mikie Rowe has led the way in terms of goals with eleven in all competitions and will be a player they will turn to on Friday. While goals aren’t a problem, conceding them is. Wexford have the joint-second most goals conceded with 42 and have kept the second fewest amount of clean sheets with three.

Previous Encounters

This Friday marks the fifteenth encounter between the sides with Treaty United just edging it in terms of wins. This season, the sides have a win each along with one draw at the Markets Field in May. Wexford got their first victory over Treaty at the seventh attempt on the last day of the 2022 season in what was a dead rubber for both sides, while Treaty’s fondest memory of meeting Wexford came when they ran out 5-1 winners at Ferrycarrig Park on the first day of the 2022 season.

Treaty United Wins – 5

Draws – 5

Wexford FC Wins – 4
