Academy Report: 27-28 July
Last Friday night at the Markets Field during half time in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland First Division game between Treaty United and Finn Harps, the club made a presentation to MU17 player Charlie Campbell in recognition of his first Rep of Ireland cap earlier in the year. Treaty United’s Head of Academy, Declan Farmer, made the presentation on behalf of the club and Charlie was accompanied by his family and friends on the night. Congratulations Charlie, hopefully it is the first of many.

Congratulations also this week to Treaty United Carelon Academy WU17 players Aibhlinn Cotter, Grace Ehinger, Kate Jones, Chloe Wallace and Ciara Breslin (L-R) who took part in Irish U17 assessments last week in Abbotstown.
Four of our six of our Treaty United Carelon academy teams were in action this weekend. The WU17s and WU19s were in league action while the MU17s and MU20s were in action in their respective cups. Both sides advanced to the quarter finals of their competitions. It was 3 wins and one narrow defeat in a seven-goal thriller across the four games.
MU20
First into action for the weekend were our MU20s who hosted Wexford FC in the Manor Fields in Adare in the second round of the Enda McGuill MU20 Cup.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Michael Dike, Fintan McNamara, Conor Carew, Richkov Boevi, Mark Murphy (C), Leon Kirrane, Adam O’Halloran, Seanie O’Haodha, Nikodem Kozlowski, Ross Bermingham, Shane Franklin
Subs:
Adam Brennan, Kyle Foley, Conall Stapleton, Isaac O’Sullivan, Luke Ryan, Ryan Perez, Alex Cuddy, Fintan O’Kelly
Result:
Treaty United 2 Wexford FC 0
The MU20s advanced to the last 8 of the cup with a comprehensive win over Wexford FC. The visitors arrived on the back of an 8 game winning streak and started much the brighter forcing Michael Dyke into an early save. Treaty settled into it and as has been the case all season they squandered a number of chances before Conor Carew pounced on a Richkov Boevi knockdown to open the scoring in the 30th minute. Treaty had a number of chances to double the lead but Luke Ryan eventually put the tie to bed with a poachers finish in the 65th minute. A quarter final to look forward to now and we eagerly await the draw this week.
WU17
Our WU17s took the long trip to Wexford’s Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday last, for game 2 in the elite phase of the League of Ireland but unfortunately left empty handed after a 4-3 defeat in yet another pulsating and end-to-end game..
Starting 11:
Niamh Kinehan, Kate Lee, Emma Meaney, Ava Neary, Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Kristina Bokmane (C), Grace Ehinger, Ciara Breslin, Rachel O’Shea, Saoirse Kent, Madison McGuane

Chloe Widger, Mioda O’Shea, Aine Bonfil, Evelina Stankevituite

Wexford FC 4 Treaty United 3
Our WU17s showed plenty of character and fight in an exciting game away to a strong and pacy Wexford side but were unfortunate not to come away with at least a draw in a 4-3 defeat in the 2nd game of the elite phase of the WU17 League of Ireland. The fight and character was needed throughout the game and even before the game when goalkeeper Chloe Widger suffered a hand injury in the pre-game warmup which ruled her out just before kick-off. Thankfully Niamh Kinehan was more than ready to take her place and lined up in the starting 11 without too much disruption to our game plans.
Wexford seemed to sense there were some last minute changes in the Treaty side and started extremely quickly and looked to get shots and crosses in from the 1st minute. This approach actually paid off for them in the 3rd minute when a cross from their speedy winger L O’Meara was met by their centre forward N White and it crept into the corner to give the home side an early lead. Sensing early nerves in the Treaty side, Wexford pushed on looking for more and deservedly went 2 up on 20 minutes when again N White was on hand to score her 2nd to the dismay of the Treaty defence. Huge credit to the girls though as they didn’t allow the heads to drop and came roaring back through the drive from captain Kristina Bokmane, the skill of Madison McGuane & Grace Ehinger and the tenacity of centre forward Ciara Breslin. In the 25th minute Madison delivered a super corner from the right which broke to our full back Kate Lee in the box and she buried her shot to get the girls back in the game. Wexford came again though and scored a super 3rd when a great cross from the right was volleyed home spectacularly from their talented midfielder Molly Kirwan. If that goal was good then the next goal from Grace Ehinger was outstanding as she ran onto a Madison flicked header on 39 minutes & curled a right footer over the Wexford keeper to pull the Wexford lead back to one goal. The chaotic 1st half wasn’t over yet though and 2 minutes into injury time Wexford restored their 2 goal lead when a brilliant Niamh Kinehan save from a Wexford free kick was met by M Cuddihy who reacted quickest to poke home Wexford’s 4th and see the half time score at 4-2.
The 2nd half saw Treaty come out like a team possessed and the girls really went after Wexford and tried to pull themselves back into the game. Aine Bonfil & Mioda O’Shea gave fresh legs to the Treaty girls in midfield and on the right wing and they started to push Wexford back repeatedly. The Wexford keeper made some good saves from Ciara Breslin & Madison McGuane early on but Treaty just kept coming and finally got some reward on 82 mins when Ciara (playing against her former club) ran onto a Madison through ball and hit a rocket from the edge of the box to pull the game back to a 1 goal lead for Wexford. Treaty pressed hard for the equaliser but were unlucky to see shots from Aine Bonfil & Ewelina Stankevicute go just over the bar. The full time whistle was met with huge relief from the home team and their large support and although the Treaty girls were disappointed with the defeat they can definitely take pride in how they kept going with their never-say-die attitude.
Next up for the girls is another long away trip to meet Longford Town in the WU17 LOI Academy Cup on August 10th where the girls will look to get back to winning ways and progress to the last 8.
On Sunday, we had another 2 of our academy teams in action.
WU19
First into action on Sunday were our WU19s who hosted Cobh Ramblers in the opening game of Phase 2 of their league at the Manor Fields in Adare.
Starting 11:
Hannah Neville, Katelynn O’Dwyer Guerin, Grace McInerney, Sophie McIlrath, Siobhán McMahon, Sadbh Griffin, Ella Carey, Yanna Leahy (C), Jessica Heffernan, Judith Egan, Abbey Walsh
Subs:
Avril Tangri, Rhianne Ryan, Naoise Griffin, Holly O’Brien, Evelina Stankevituite
Result:
Treaty United 5 Cobh Ramblers 0
Our WU19s played Cobh Ramblers in Adare on Sunday afternoon in the first game of phase 2. Treaty United had 2 debutants, Hannah Neville in goals and Jess Heffernan who re-signed with the club after a short spell away in the first half of the season. The game started with plenty of action and in the 12th minute Jess Heffernan opened the scoring after she outpaced the defence and stroked the ball into the bottom corner. On the half hour mark our captain, Yanna Leahy, timed her run to perfection and scored after she gambled on a long free kick that was lifted into the penalty area.
Just before half time Treaty United struck twice. Jess Heffernan again raced in behind the defence and slotted her second of the game and Grace McInerney got her name on the score sheet with a really top drawer finish. The visitors showed some grit and determination to put up a fight in the second half and it proved to make things more difficult for Treaty United. However, on the hour mark Sophie McIlrath was first to react to a rebound from a free kick to fire the ball past the Ramblers keeper from close range.
Cobh Ramblers hit the woodwork late on which was a real warning to us to stay alert right to the end and it showed that Cobh Ramblers were going to push right to the end to get something in the match. Thankfully the performance was enough and the scoreline was one that was In our favour which is just what the girls needed. With players slowly returning from holidays the team is starting to get back into full swing again, along with the two new recruits to add to the group.
Well done to Hannah Neville who made her LOI debut and kept a clean sheet. She had a really solid performance and gave us a lot of stability at the back. Next up is a trip to Greystones to take on Bray Wanderers on the 11th.

MU17
Our final game of the weekend saw our MU17s make the long journey to Ballybofey to take on Finn Harps in the second round of the Mark Farren MU17 National Cup.
Our lineup for the game was as follows:
Starting 11:
Conor Crofton, Cullen Wiegand, Joey Nwankwo, Brandon Long, Jamie Faulkner, Matt Jones (C), Kyle Foley, Michael Mulcahy, Scott Murphy, Rhys Barry, Alex Omoruyi
Subs:
Dylan Browne, Colin Healy, Kian Dempsey, Jack Cregan, Jack Keogh
Result:
Finn Harps 3 Treaty United 4
Our MU17s made the long trip to Ballybofey on Sunday for a last 16 tie in the Mark Farren Cup. Treaty struggled to get going in the early exchanges with the long travel and a 3rd game in 7 days being partly to blame. Treaty found themselves a goal down after some lapse defending 13 minutes in to the game. Treaty got back on level terms on the stroke of half time. Rhys Barry found Mike Mulcahy with an excellent through ball, Mike finishing coolly past the on rushing keeper.
Treaty started to find their rhythm in the second half taking control of the game from the get go. Treaty’s bright start paid dividends in the 55th minute when Mike Mulcahy found Brandon Long inside who fired home from distance to give Treaty the lead. Treaty extended their lead 4 minutes later with Matt Jones nodding the ball down for Scott Murphy who finished in to the top corner emphatically.
Scott Murphy added a second to his tally on the 68th minute getting on the end of a Mike Mulcahy cross to give Treaty a deserved 4-1 lead. Fatigue started to set in for Treaty and Finn Harps made it a nervy ending scoring two late goals to make it a 4-3 scoreline.
After 3 games in 7 days the MU17s have a well deserved free weekend next week.
