The Teams
Treaty United
Treaty United secured an All-Island Cup Quarter-Final away to Galway United thanks to picking up the point they needed away to DLR Waves. Dominic Foley will be somewhat disappointed with how his side conceded from the one shot on target that they faced, and that Treaty didn’t win the game considering the number of chances they had, but they got over the line anyhow.
Treaty have responded well since their defeat to Bohemians in April and have put in three good performances irrespective of the result. If they can keep up their current vein of form they should be in a good position to pick up a result in Ferrycarrig.
Wexford FC
It’s been a weak start to the season for Hugh Strong’s side who have recorded just two wins in nine competitive outings. They have been comfortable winners against Cliftonville and Sligo Rovers in the All-Island Cup and Women’s Premier Division respectively but will be disappointed at having lost to Bohemians on the opening day of the league. With that said, Wexford had a good showing last week against Shelbourne which will stand to them going forward.
There is great experience in the squad through Kylie Murphy, Nicola Sinnott and Ciara Rossiter to name a few, but there is a lack of experience otherwise with many of their young and talented players still finding their way in the adult game.
There is plenty of familiarity between the sides with Wexford’s Nicole Nix, Michaela Lawrence, Aine Walsh & Ceola Bergin all having started out with Treaty United, while Aoibheann Clancy started out on the national stage with Limerick WFC’s WU17 side where she spent two seasons.
Previous Encounters
Wexford have had great joy in this fixture with eight wins from nine meetings, while Treaty United picked up their first result against the side in May of 2023.
Treaty led inside the opening quarter through Hailey Walsh before Nicola Sinnott equalised in the final quarter for Wexford. Cara Griffin gave Treaty the lead for the second time with five minutes remaining but there was to be another twist in the tale as Emily Corbet struck at the death to snatch a 2-2 draw.
The sides also met in pre-season where Treaty were 3-1 winners.
Treaty United wins – 0
Draws – 1
Wexford FC wins – 8
