Treaty United

Despite taking a lead in Longford through Mark Byrne on Monday evening, Treaty ended up on the losing side yet again following goals from Ross Fay and Dean O’Shea.

This followed a 2-2 draw against Wexford FC last Friday night.

An early Thomas Oluwa goal was cancelled out by Lee Devitt just three minutes later.

Treaty looked to have secured the win on 86 minutes.

However, right at the death, Kaylem Hartness snatched a point for Wexford.

Cobh Ramblers

The Cork Harbour-based club had to move to Turners Cross for a period at the start of the season as a new pitch was laid at St Colman’s Park. This coupled with the loss of several key players has developed into a patchy set of results.

After taking over from Shane Keegan, who saw Cobh into the 2023 play offs, Gary Hunt, former assistant and caretaker head coach at Waterford, has overseen some decent performances.

However, they come into this game after being humbled by county rivals Cork City last Friday night by a scoreline of 3-0.

Despite recent form, Ramblers do seem like a club on the up, with a brand new all-weather pitch and a new academy just launched to cater for 7-14 year olds copper-fastening the club’s place in the local community.

Past Meetings

In 13 competitive outings between the sides, Treaty United have won five, Cobh four and and there have been four draws.

The majority of Cobh’s wins came against Treaty last season with the Limerick-side failing to get much change out of their Munster rivals.

Early in the 2023 season, Cobh arrived at the Markets Field and left with three points through a 3-0 victory which left the home crowd frustrated in an otherwise decent performance by Treaty. Wilson Wareru gave the visitors the lead on 61 minutes.

While Treaty pushed for an equaliser, Ramblers caught them on the break with two late goals from Jack Doherty wrapping up the win.

Doherty was at the centre of the early exchanges in the next meeting between the sides at St Colman’s Park in April.

Treaty’s defence was caught out in the second minute in that encounter as a set piece delivery found Doherty who swivelled and hit the net from close range.

A Colin Conroy volley on 19 minutes was no more than Treaty deserved, though, as both sides had to settle for a point.

A Liam Kervick goal on 80 minutes nicked all three points for Cobh back in June in Limerick.

Another agonising defeat came at St Colman’s Park in September – Brendan Frahill heading a late winner for the harbour-based club.

In this season’s first game, it was a dream start for Treaty the last time these sides met back in February at a packed Markets Field as the Limerick side beat Cobh Ramblers 3-1. An early own goal by the away side was cancelled out by former Treaty United striker Matt McKevitt seven minutes into the second half.

Six minutes later, Thomas Considine restored Treaty’s lead with a stunning strike after cutting in from the right and curling the ball into the Cobh net.

He was at it again in the 85th minute with a very similar goal that wrapped up the points for the Limerick side on a very positive night for the home team.
