Nwankwo & Lynch Sign

Treaty United are thrilled to announce that Darren Nwankwo and Robbie Lynch have signed part-time professional contracts with the club.

In a landmark move for the club, Darren and Robbie become the first men’s players from the Treaty United Carelon Academy to sign on pro-terms.

Formerly of Aisling Annacotty, Darren Nwankwo started out with Treaty United’s very first MU17 side in March of 2021 before progressing to the MU19 team later that year. Darren broke through to the senior matchday squad for the first time in the summer of 2022, making his debut against Cork City in June of that year. 2023 saw the 18-year-old make a name for himself at senior level as he made over twenty appearances for Tommy Barrett’s men whilst also helping the MU19 side to reach a Shield Final.

A former schoolboy at Broadford United, Robbie Lynch first lined out for Treaty United’s MU15 side in 2021 before progressing to the club’s MU17 and MU19 sides in subsequent seasons. Robbie received his first team berth in May of last year at home to Galway United and featured five times that season, with his goal-line block at home to Kerry FC being one of the most memorable moments of the year.

Speaking to TreatyUnitedFC.com, club CEO Ciara McCormack spoke of her delight at signing Darren and Robbie to part-time professional deals and continuing to focus on youth in the future:

“We’re really excited to have Darren and Robbie become the first academy players that we’ve ever signed to part-time pro contracts. We said coming in that we will be focusing on and building the youth players in the club, and this is an important first step to follow through with that commitment. Both players have shown immense potential and ability, and we are looking forward to seeing where the next few years take them.”

Treaty United Senior Men’s Manager Tommy Barrett also spoke to TreatyUnitedFC.com and had high hopes for the pair after a promising 2023 season for both players:

“Robbie and Darren are two young local players that got plenty of experience last year and did very well, and we’re hoping they can continue to develop this year. They’re two really good young players and at 17 and 18 they are only going to get better.”
