Treaty United
A trip to Wicklow yielded no points for Treaty United in their last outing as they suffered a 2-1 loss at the Carlisle Grounds.
There was positivity to be drawn from the game though with 19-year-old Leon Kirrane netting his first senior goal for Treaty, a well struck right foot shot into the top corner from the Limerick native.
It’s seven league games without a win now for Treaty, the last victory for Tommy Barrett’s team coming in Kerry at the beginning of March.
UCD
In contrast, UCD are unbeaten in seven.
They drew three games in a row before beating Wexford 3-2 last week.
Following three early season defeats to Treaty, Cork City and Wexford, they have gone on a decent run of form which has seen Willie O’Connor’s side soar to second place, albeit seven points behind leaders City.
Past Meetings
Treaty just edge it in terms of competitive wins following a 1-0 victory at the UCD Bowl In February courtesy of an Enda Curran goal on 72 minutes.
The first ever meeting between the sides is perhaps best remembered for an audacious long-range effort from Kieran Hanlon putting Treaty 2-0 up at the Bowl before the students upped their games and staged a comeback win.
The sides met in the 2021 season promotion play-off semi final. A 3-0 victory for UCD at the Markets Field would have suggested a straight-forward second-leg was to come in Dublin.
However, Treaty went into the break leading 1-0 through a Conor Melody goal. When Anto O’Donnell made it 2 just after half-time the comeback appeared to be on.
A very questionable red card for Stephen Christopher swung the momentum back in favour of the Dublin side and an Adam Verdon goal ended Treaty’s promotion prospects. UCD went on to seal a place in the Premier Division.
Revenge was served ice-cold the very next season as UCD visited Limerick for the FAI Cup quarter final. It was a night to remember for Tommy Barrett’s men as they easily progressed through an Enda Curran hat trick and a William Armshaw goal. A late UCD consolation could not take the shine off the 4-1 win.
