Treaty United

A good performance and a point against Wexford brought a run of three defeats to an end for Treaty United earlier this month but the mid-season break was met with some disappointment in the next game as Treaty went down to a late goal at home to Cobh Ramblers from Liam Kervick.

Tommy Barrett will be hoping his side can find some form in the coming weeks starting with the trip to Lissywollen.

Hopes of a play-off spot still abound with the Limerick-based side just five points off a third shot at promotion in successive seasons.

Mark Walsh is out through injury. Alec Byrne, former Athlone man Success Edogun and Conor Winn are doubtful.

Athlone Town

The midlanders come into this game with an unbeaten run of three games behind them. They finished the first half of the season with a 1-0 away win at Kerry to maintain third-place in the league – level points with Cobh Ramblers but edging it on goal difference.

In Frantz Pierrot they possess the league’s second most prolific marksman this season. He has already found the net against Treaty this season and will have to be watched closely.

Past Meetings

These two sides have met on nine occasions. Treaty have held the upper hand in the past with five wins to Athlone Town’s one. However, there was heartbreak for Treaty earlier in the season at Lissywollen. After taking a 2-0 lead through an Enda Curran double, the Limerick side looked set to take all three points but a late fightback from 10-man Athlone, that included an equaliser in the eighth minute of stoppage time, earned a point for the home team.

The last match between the two sides also featured late drama as a first half Pierrot strike was made redundant by an equaliser from Lee Devitt and a stunning team goal finished off by Marc Ludden.

Treaty supporters will remember one of the club’s most impressive away performances to date, a 4-1 victory at Lissywollen. Ed McCarthy, Jack Lynch, Seán McSweeney and Marc Ludden all found the net in the July 2021 encounter.
