Words From The Team:
Treaty United manager Alban Hysa – “It was a very strong performance from this Treaty team at the weekend against the league leaders, it shows that the team is moving in the right direction. We need to build up our defensive performance with some results and that will come in due course. Wexford will be another tough game they have some quality players and are a very good team. We will continue where we left off and hope to get something from this game”.
The Teams
Treaty United
9th placed Treaty United were in hard luck last Saturday as they lost out to league leaders Peamount United by the narrowest of margins. Treaty had the better of the chances at the Markets Field, but a piece of quality from Kate Mooney saw the Peas nick it at the death.
While Treaty have lost three of their last five games, those defeats have come at the hands of three of the top four in the Women’s Premier Division and by just a single goal in each. Manager Alban Hysa will be happy with how his side have kept opposition at bay, but will be looking for greater accuracy up top if Treaty United are to return to winning ways.
Kiara Kilbey earned her spot in the Team of the Week for her performance against Peamount, and she will be hoping for another good performance up top with the support of wide players like Cara Griffin.
Wexford Youths
7th placed Wexford Youths will be disappointed at their start to the season which has likely ended their title hopes.
The Youths made strong additions in the off-season with exciting players like Abbie Brophy, Emily Corbet and Rianna Jarrett joining Stephen Quinn’s squad. However things have yet to click with Wexford having lost four of their eight games, scoring the second fewest and conceding the most out of the top eight sides in the division.
Wexford were comprehensively beaten at home to Bohemians last Saturday and will be licking their wounds after that defeat. They will be hoping to return to winning ways on Saturday and may turn to their ex Treaty United players on Saturday including Aine Walsh, Michaela Lawrence and Ceola Bergin
Previous Encounters
Treaty United have yet to taste victory against Wexford Youths but came ever so close to recording a result in July, 2021. Wexford took the lead on 68 minutes through Sinead Taylor, but it looked as if the points would be shared when Gillian Keenan found the net on 89 minutes. However there was another twist in the tale as Kilbehenny native Aoibheann Clancy grabbed a winner on 90+3’.
