Treaty United
It’s been a good couple of weeks for Treaty in the lead up to this game with three wins on the bounce seeing them move into contention for the play-offs.
A comeback win over Athlone Town last Friday night at the Markets Field saw Tommy Barrett’s side move into sixth place in the table just a point off Bray Wanderers in the final play-off spot.
An early goal from the in-form Athlone Town striker Frantz Pierrot was cancelled out by a Lee Devitt equaliser on the 78th minute following a goalkeeping error. Marc Ludden finished off a fine team move to secure all three points for the home side with a winner in the 82nd minute on his return from injury.
The win built on a fluid performance against Kerry that saw Treaty take the three points with a 4-0 victory that was followed up with a 3-0 away victory at Bray Wanderers.
Longford Town
Since losing to Treaty at the Markets Field last month, Longford Town have found some form. That 3-2 reverse was followed by another defeat at home to Wexford but Gary Cronin’s side are unbeaten since.
Hard fought 1-1 draws at home to Bray and away to Finn Harps were followed up with a stunning home win against league leaders Galway United and a trip to Tralee which resulted in a 3-2 win against league new boys Kerry.
They sit eighth in the table.
Past Meetings
The clubs have faced each other on 5 occasions with Treaty United currently unbeaten. Treaty have two wins from five and three draws have been played out.
Treaty’s first ever win against Longford came last July in their third meeting. Enda Curran scored two off the bench after Marc Ludden had given the home side the lead.
Last time out saw the most exciting encounter between the clubs. A Lee Devitt free kick found its way past former Treaty United netminder Jack Brady at the Markets Field before Francis Campbell equalised. The home side regained the advantage when substitute Success Edogun scored a rocket in the 55th minute.
However, Josh Giurgi pounced on some confusion in the Treaty box to bring Longford back into the game. In the 83rd minute Dean George sealed the win for Treaty after a save by Brady, from a Conor Barry close range effort, landed kindly for the forward. It was Treaty’s first win of the season.
