Manager Tommy Barrett said ahead of the game: “It’s a difficult task with a full squad against Galway but it’s a great opportunity for the lads to test themselves against the best team in the league.”
Treaty United
Tommy Barrett’s men made it a club record four wins in-a-row as they dispatched Longford Town at Bishopsgate last Saturday night in a dominant display that delighted the travelling support.
Enda Curran’s header was followed by a second half penalty from the striker with Stephen Christopher rounding off the scoring.
The win came off the back of an impressive run that saw Kerry beaten 4-1 at home, Bray defeated 3-0 at the Carlisle Grounds and Athlone Town turned over 2-1 through a second-half comeback by Treaty in Garryowen.
The Shannonsiders’ form has elevated them right into contention for the playoff spots, in sixth place, level on points with Athlone Town and just a goal difference of one separating the sides.
Galway United
John Caulfield’s side’s early season free-scoring form has slightly dissipated but the league leaders have still managed to eke out wins against title rivals Waterford and Wexford in recent weeks.
The Galwegians have been impressive all season with standout wins including a 9-1 mauling of Kerry and 6-0 demolition of Bray.
They have won 13 out of 14 games, the only blot on their copybook being a shock 1-0 defeat away to Longford Town earlier this month.
Callum McNamara and Edward McCarthy will be familiar names to Treaty fans having represented the club in recent times.
Past Meetings
In eight meetings, Treaty are yet to register a win against Galway who have held the upper hand with four victories.
However, all those wins have been decided by a single goal.
Treaty hearts were broken last season after a Dean George double put them in a comfortable position with a 2-0 half-time lead in an encounter at the Markets Field in April.
Sadly for the home support, the strength, stamina and squad of Galway showed in the second half when three goals in the last 15 minutes from Ronan Manning, Alex Murphy and Stephen Walsh secured the points for the Tribesmen.
