The Teams

Treaty United

Sitting in ninth place on eleven points, Treaty United picked up a much needed win last time out to distance themselves from the bottom two and move closer to the middle of the table. First half goals from Delana Friesen and Danielle Steer were enough for Treaty to defeat DLR Waves at the UCD Bowl, completing a clean sweep over the South Dublin side in the Women’s Premier Division.

That win ended a run of five consecutive losses for Treaty, and while results had not gone their way in recent weeks the performances in those defeats were arguably worthy of results.

In terms of team news, Grace McInerney returned to the starting line-up with aplomb last week after being left on the bench against Shamrock Rovers. Her assist for Danielle Steer and overall performance showed her importance to the team. The aforementioned Danielle Steer picked up her second goal in as many games in that victory and she will be keen to extend that hot streak on Saturday. Defender Mijke Roelfsema was a recent addition and may make her debut this Saturday also.

Wexford FC

Sitting in fifth place on seventeen points, Wexford have turned around their season after a slow start. They were beaten by Galway United in the Avenir Sports All Island Cup after a penalty shootout on Wednesday, but otherwise they have not lost in 90 minutes in their last seven outings in all competitions.

Wexford had three representatives at the recent UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in the form of goalkeeper Jayne Merren, Meabh Russell and ex Treaty United player Ceola Bergin. The latter two started in Wednesday’s cup tie and it will be interesting to see if they start once more on Saturday considering the number of games they have both played of late.

There is plenty of familiarity between the sides with Wexford having former Treaty United players Nicole Nix, the aforementioned Ceola Bergin, Michaela Lawrence and Aine Walsh on their books, as well as former Limerick WFC underage player Aoibheann Clancy.

Previous Encounters

Wexford have had much the better of the meetings between the sides having dropped points just once in ten meetings. Those dropped points came in May of 2023 when Treaty led twice through Hailey Walsh and Cara Griffin, but Emily Corbet struck at the death to give Wexford a share of the spoils.
