Academy Report: 20-21 July

First off this week, congratulations to Treaty United Carelon Academy WU17 player Annabel Mulcaire Quille who took part in an Irish WU16 Assessment day in Abbotstown recently. Well deserved for Annabel who continues to impress with her performances weekly.

Five of our six of our Treaty United Carelon academy teams were in action this weekend. The MU15s, MU17s and MU20s were in league action, the MU14s completed the group stage of the Eddie Wallace Cup, while on Saturday the WU17s were in FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown where they took part in a Development Day.

We had two teams in action on Saturday while the WU17s played 3 games during the development day in Abbotstown.

MU20

First into action for the weekend were our MU20s who travelled to the AUL Complex to take on Shelbourne FC in the first games of Phase 2 of their league.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Result:

Shelbourne FC 6 Treaty United 3

The MU20s began phase 2 of their league campaign with a 6-3 loss to an excellent Shelbourne team. The hosts started incredibly well and were 2 up within 5 minutes. Treaty gained a foothold and started to dominate possession but were caught on the break to go 3 down. Much to their credit Treaty battled back and with goals from Leon Kirrane and Seanie O’ HAodha reduced the halftime deficit to 3-2. Treaty started the second half much the brighter and went close to equalizing on a number of occasions. Shels emptied the bench and their superior strength in depth proved key as the Treaty legs failed and the hosts ran in three almost identical counter attacking goals. A disappointing result but lots of positives to take into our quick reappearance on Tuesday when we host Cobh 7.15pm in UL North Campus.

MU15

Next up were our MU15s when they travelled to Marley Park to take on UCD FC in their Elite Phase league.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Result:

UCD 5 Treaty United 1

Our MU15s made the long trip to Marley Park on Dublin to take on UCD FC in the fourth game of their Elite Phase league. Unfortunately, they came away with a 5-1 defeat with Gavin Ryan grabbing our only goal.

WU17

Our WU17 side travelled to the FAI headquarters in Abbotstown, Dublin on Saturday last to participate in a mini-tournament against a number of strong teams from their Elite Phase in the League of Ireland. The girls played 3 games in total against Shamrock Rovers, Waterford United and Wexford in an enjoyable day which was well organised by the FAI. The girls improved throughout the day after a long bus trip and finished the day with a loss a draw and a victory in a worthwhile outing which will definitely help build confidence for the remainder of their elite campaign .

Game 1 vs Shamrock Rovers;

Starting 11:

Chloe Widger, Kate Lee, Emma Meaney, Ava Neary, Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Kristina Bokmane, Mioda O’Shea, Grace Ehinger, Ciara Breslin, Rachel O’Shea, Eleanor Blake

Subs:

Aine Bonfil, Aideen Riedy, Saoirse Kent, Niamh Kinehan

Result:

Treaty United 2 Shamrock Rovers 3

This was a real ding-dong battle with end to end entertainment from 2 sides determined to play quality football from back to front. Shamrock Rovers went into a 2 goal lead early on and held onto this lead until half time despite relentless pressure from the Treaty girls. This pressure paid off in the 2nd half when an excellent corner from Eleanor Blake on the right was met on the volley from close range by the determined Aideen Riedy to get the girls back in the game. Soon after Treaty pulled level when a great through ball from midfield was met perfectly by Ciara Breslin’s well-timed run and she coolly finished in the bottom corner. It seemed to be all Treaty now but Shamrock Rovers always looked dangerous and through an excellent quick break from the back, their centre forward got in behind our defence to slot home their 3rd and ultimately the winner in a great game played in wet conditions.

Game 2 vs Waterford;

Starting 11:

Niamh Kinehan, Kate Lee, Emma Meaney, Ava Neary, Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Kristina Bokmane, Aine Bonfil, Rachel O’Shea, Aideen Riedy, Saoirse Kent, Eleanor Blake

Subs:

Ciara Breslin, Mioda O’Shea, Grace Ehinger, Chloe Widger

Result:

Treaty United 1 Waterford United 1

In another end to end game, the Treaty girls once again showed their resolve when they once again had to come from behind to secure a draw in a game they felt they should have won. Waterford went ahead with a great header from a corner early in the 1st half and always looked dangerous from set plays or from their fast breaks. However Treaty’s high press paid off in the 2nd half when the tireless Ciara Breslin pressed the Waterford defence which resulted in the ball breaking to Rachel O’Shea who finished calmly to pull the sides level. Treaty went looking for a winner but were actually fortunate not to lose the game in the dying moments when a Waterford break saw their winger in a 1v1 with the Treaty keeper Niamh Kinehan who pulled off a stunning save to keep parity and see the game finish in a draw.

Game 3 vs Wexford;

Starting 11:

Chloe Widger, Kate Lee, Emma Meaney, Ava Neary, Annabel Mulcaire Quille, Kristina Bokmane, Mioda O’Shea, Grace Ehinger, Ciara Breslin, Saoirse Kent, Eleanor Blake

Subs:

Aine Bonfil, Aideen Riedy, Rachel O’Shea, Niamh Kinehan

Result:

Treaty United 3 Wexford FC 0

The Treaty girls definitely saved their best until last in this final game of the day when they simply outplayed a talented Wexford team & finish with a well deserved 3-0 victory. From the kickoff Treaty looked hungry and aggressive in their press and Wexford struggled to match their intensity. The pass & move game saw the girls tire out the Wexford side with Treaty exploiting the huge pitch in the impressive National Academy Dome in Abbotstown. This passing game led to their 1st goal on 10 mins when a through ball from Annabel Mulcaire Quille found Mioda O’Shea 25 yards from goal and her excellent lobbed shot sailed over the Wexford keeper to put the girls ahead. Treaty were everywhere now and playing some super football which was evident from their 2nd goal on 15 mins when a passing move which started in their defence saw Saoirse Kent cross from the right to Grace Ehinger to bury in the corner. Wexford had no answer to the pace & passing of Treaty and the 3rd goal came just before halftime when yet again the high press from Treaty paid off as Saoirse Kent blocked down a clearance from the Wexford keeper and the ball fell kindly to the impressive Ciara Breslin to cooly slot home the last goal of the game against her former team & team mates. That’s how the game stayed but Wexford had some chances in the 2nd half as Treaty went looking for more but 2 great close range saves from Chloe Widger ensured the girls finished with a clean sheet and a super win to end the day.

Our WU17 squad who took part in the Development Day in Abbotstown

MU17

First into action on Sunday were our MU17s who hosted Klub Kildare in the second game of the Elite Phase of their league at the Manor Fields in Adare.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Crofton, Cullen Wiegand, Ike Manjor, Joey Nwankwo, Jamie Faulkner, Matt Jones (C), Charlie Campbell, Michael Mulcahy, Tony Hourigan, Colin Healy, Rhys Barry

Subs:

Brandon Long, Patrick Ryan, Gavin Ryan, Scott Murphy, Darragh Van Veen

Result:

Treaty United 1 Klub Kildare 1

Ike Manjor finding Jamie Faulkner in behind with an excellent pass before Jamie was pulled down in the box. Charlie Campbell saw his penalty saved but was finely positioned to put away the rebound.

Treaty failed to extend their lead despite having the chances to do so. Klub Kildare found themselves on level terms in the 83rd minute. Treaty had two golden chances to win the game in final 5 minutes but it finished honours even.

Next up for Treaty is St. Patrick’s AthleVeenaway on Wednesday 24th at 19:15. Rounding out 3 games in 7 days for Treaty is an away trip to Finn Harps Sunday in the last 16 of the cup. Kick off at Finn Park is 3pm.

MU14

Last up on Sunday were our MU14s who welcomed CK United as visitors to The Manor Fields in Adare in the final game of the Eddie Wallace Cup group stage.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Daniel O’Connell, Paddy Gubbins, James Palache, Alex Meaney, Conor Kennedy, Ben Doumbouya, Mighty Odudu, Wisdom Amaeze, Conor Campbell, Emmett Hawkins, Evan Hogan (C)

Subs:

Sean Casey, Konrad Miskiewicz, Mieszko Kurylonski

Result:

Treaty United 2 CK United 1

Our MU14s continued their campaign with a home fixture against CK United. Treaty United were trying to get their usual possession-based style of football but struggled to gain momentum or find a rhythm. Credit must go to the young players as they continued to try to play football and didn’t give in even though things were difficult.

Despite the absence of all usual center backs due to holidays, Treaty United showcased their adaptability with Ben Hogan stepping into an unfamiliar defensive role and delivering a brilliant performance.

The match, played over three 25-minute thirds, saw both teams battling for control. Although it was a close battle, big chances fell to Mighty Odudu who failed to convert. It wasn’t until the second third that Treaty United opened the scoring. Paddy Gubbins found the net, reflecting the team’s persistence and ability to create and finish opportunities despite the challenges posed by their opponents.

CK United were physically a bigger side and made it count on a set piece in the final of the three thirds, demonstrating their strength and capitalizing on a lapse in concentration from Treaty United.

As the game progressed deeper into the final third, Treaty United pushed for the winner, buoyed by the debut performance of Alex Meaney. Meaney made an immediate impact, providing a brilliant assist for Sean Casey, who netted the decisive goal. This combination highlighted the team’s resilience and capability to adapt and succeed under pressure. Konrad Miskiewicz also did well to earn himself two chances on goal but failed to close out the game.

Despite CK United’s efforts to find an equalizer, Treaty United’s makeshift defense held firm, securing a well-earned 2-1 victory. The team will look to build on this positive performance in their next fixture, drawing confidence from their ability to overcome adversity and maintain their possession-based style of play.
