Academy Report: 13-14th July

Five of our six Treaty United Carelon academy teams were in action this weekend. Two sides, our WU19s and MU14s were in cup action while the MU15s continued the Elite Phase of their league with the MU17s and WU17s kicking off their respective Elite Phase league campaigns. There were a lot of really tight competitive games across the weekend which resulted in 2 draws and 3 defeats.

We had two teams in action on Saturday.

MU15

First into action at the weekend were our MU15s when they hosted Galway United in their Elite Phase league at the Janesboro FC Stadium at 2PM. The MU15s were hoping to bounce back after a disappointing performance in going down to Wexford FC last weekend.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Darragh Van Veen, Sean Meere, Conor O’Mahony, Kian Dempsey, Sean Potter, Jack Cregan (C), Christian Stack, Gavin Ryan, Dylan Browne, Bryan Parish, Brooklyn Delahunty,

Subs:

Daniel O’Connell, Aaron Cobbs-Sarko, Unai Ngache, Patrick Edroso, Darragh Kirwan, Saleem Ojulari, Nathan Robinson, Ewan Coulter

Result:

Treaty United 3 Galway United 3

Our MU15s played their 3rd game of the Elite phase at home to Galway Utd in Janesboro FC’s ground. We completely dominated the first 30 minutes and finished it 1 nil up with a goal from distance, scored by Dylan Browne. The 2nd 30 minutes was one to forget as a few really bad mistakes led to 2 goals for Galway. Christian Stack got us back to 2-2 but another mistake led to a third for Galway.

Going into the final 30 minutes 3-2 down, we managed to get an 3rd through our right back, playing right wing, Kian Dempsey. The game finished 3-3 but it is very hard not to take this as a loss. We now look forward to the trip up to Dublin next Saturday to play UCD.

WU17

Next into action were our WU17s who kicked off the Elite Phase of their league when they welcomed Waterford FC to The Manor Fields in Adare at 4.30PM. The girls were eager to get back into action having had a free weekend the previous week as they received a bye in the WU17 Cup.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Niamh Kinahan, Annabelle Mulcare Quille, Chloe Wallace, Emma Meaney, Kate Jones, Kristina Bokmane (C), Rachel O’Shea, Grace Ehinger, Ciara Breslin, Aibhlinn Cotter, Eleanor Blake

Subs:

Madison McGuane, Ava Neary, Kate Lee, Aine Bonfil, Evelina Stankevituite, Mioda O’Shea, Aideen Riedy

Result:

Treaty United 2 Waterford FC 2

Our WU17s put in an excellent performance in a 2-2 home draw against a resolute Waterford side in the first game of the elite phase of the WU17 League of Ireland. The passing, movement & teamwork in the first half was superb and the large crowd who gathered were very impressed with what they saw. This passing game led to an excellent opening goal on 19 minutes when some silky footwork from Grace Ehinger saw her turn the Waterford midfielder and slip in Ciara Breslin who ran onto the pass and buried a right-footer in the bottom corner. Grace’s assists didn’t end there and 3 mins later she received a Rachel O’Shea pass on the right wing, looked up and picked out Eleanor Blake at the back post with a super left foot cross which Eleanor volleyed home from 12 yards for a debut goal and a 2-nil lead to the Treaty girls. This is how the game stayed until half time despite multiple chances for Treaty to extend the lead.

The 2nd half followed a similar pattern with Treaty piling forward looking for the 3rd goal but some good goalkeeping and solid defending from the Waterford girls denied them that elusive next goal. In fact, Waterford started to build in confidence on the back of this defensive performance and scored a fortunate first goal in the 51st minute when their centre forward, J. Roche, put pressure on the advancing Treaty keeper, Niamh Kinehan & got a toe to the ball to poke home to the disbelief of those watching. The Waterford tails were well and truly up now and they were pressing hard for an equaliser which came in the 68th minute when their midfielder, O Shannon, intercepted a Treaty clearance and finished well past the diving Niamh. Treaty responded well and started stringing their passes together again and were so unlucky not to get the lead & winner through chances from Ciara Breslin’s lob, Madison McGuane’s long range effort, Kristina Bokmane’s close range shot and Annabel Mulcaire Quille’s screamer from 18 yards which went just over the bar.

The final whistle was met with cheers from the Waterford girls but a hint of disappointment from the Treaty girls who felt they should have left with more than a point. However the girls can take a lot of confidence away from their performance in this first game of this elite phase against a team who topped their group in the original phase. Next up is a tough away game to Wexford on July 27th but the girls & coaches are already looking forward to another chance to show off their immense talents.

The WU17 squad who took on Waterford FC in the opening Elite Phase game

On Sunday, we had 3 of our academy teams in action.

MU17

First into action on Sunday were our MU17s who travelled to Bishopstown to take on Cork City in the opening game of the Elite Phase of their league. They were returning to action after a free weekend because they also received a bye in the opening round of the MU17 National Cup.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Wall, Cullen Wiegand, Ike Manjor, Kieran Doyle, Brandon Long, Jamie Faulkner, Matt Jones (C), Tiernan Adelu, Charlie Campbell, Colin Healy Rhys Barry

Subs:

Tony Hourigan, Alex Omoruyi, Danny Lyne, Scott Murphy

Result:

Cork City 3 Treaty United 2

Our MU17s began their Elite Phase campaign with an away trip to Cork City. Treaty started the game well creating some excellent early chances. Treaty were rewarded for their early efforts when a Jamie Faulkner strike was saved by the keeper. Excellent striker instincts from Colin Healy gave him an easy tap in on the rebound. Treaty doubled the lead through a well struck Charlie Campbell free kick. Cork struck back before the break capitalising on some poor decision making at the back from Treaty.

Treaty had the better of the chances in the second half with 4 different players missing big chances. Treaty’s wayward finishing was taken advantage of when Cork equalised through a set piece. Cork snuck ahead 4 minutes from time when a cross delivered in to the box saw a mix up that was well capitalised on. Cork defended well and Treaty struggled to create another big chance.

A good performance overall from the Treaty boys with the end product at both ends of the pitch meaning it’s points left behind. Next up for the MU17s is a home tie v Klub Kildare at the Manor Fields, Adare 2pm Sunday July 21st.

WU19

Our WI19s played host to Galway United in The Manor Fields in Adare in their LOI Academy WU19 Cup Group A game.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Libby Costelloe, Katelynn O’Dwyer Guerin, Molly Lane, Sophie McIlrath, Naoise Griffin, Sadbh Griffin, Abbey Walsh, Jayne Ryan, Siobhan McMahon, Yanna Leahy (C), Judith Egan

Subs:

Lisa Coen, Aisling Hardiman, Evelina Stankevituite

Treaty United1 Galway United 5

Our WU19s played an in-form Galway United on Sunday afternoon. Galway looked really impressive from the off and scored from a free kick midway though the first half. During this spell of dominance Treaty United showed a deep attacking threat that caught the visitors out when Judith Egan made one of her mazy runs from full back, found Abbey Walsh in the centre who in turn slipped the ball through for Yanna Leahy to fire beyond the Galway keeper.

The game was a more even contest after our equaliser but just before the first half was complete Galway United scored two late goals in quick succession which gave us a mountain to climb.

The second half again looked to be a bit more of a contest although it really wasn’t a great spectacle for the neutral. Galway’s form came to the fore again late on as they finished out the second half with two late goals again which was a scoreline that was pretty hard on our crew.

We felt we would get something out of the game having played Galway twice this year in friendly matches and drawing both times.

Next up is Peamount away, a team we beat in a preseason friendly so hopefully we can have a repeat.

MU14

Last up on Sunday were our MU14s who welcomed Waterford FC as visitors to The Manor Fields in Adare in the Eddie Wallace Cup group stage.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Daniel O’Connell, Jordan Brown (C), James Palache, Liam Flynn, Ben Doumbouya, Paddy Gubbins, Mighty Odudu, Wisdom Amaeze, Conor Campbell, Emmett Hawkins, Evan Hogan

Subs:

Sean Casey, Konrad Miskiewicz, Mieszko Kurylonski

Result:

Treaty United 1 Waterford FC 2

Our MU14s continued their campaign with a home fixture against Waterford FC. Credit must go to both teams for playing a possession-based style of football throughout the match.

Treaty were comfortable in possession at the back and looked in complete control. Possession was harder to secure further up the pitch and this did lead to few chances being created. Treaty United did however take the lead through Evan Hogan, who capitalized on a brilliant cross from Ben Hogan.

It was clear that Waterford’s physicality posed significant threats, with their players towering over Treaty in some cases. This advantage came to the forefront when Waterford levelled the match through a powerful header from a free kick. Moments of lost concentration and the aerial dominance of Waterford proved costly.

As the match progressed, Waterford secured the eventual winner through another set piece, exploiting their physical advantage once again. Despite a promising performance and valiant efforts, Treaty United couldn’t find an equalizer, and the match ended 2-1 in favour of Waterford FC.

Treaty United will look to carry this momentum into next week’s fixture, building on the positive aspects of their display.
