Academy Report: 22-23 June

First off this week, congratulations to some of our academy players who received recognition on the national stage. On June 3rd, Ike Manor was formally presented with his recent Rep of Ireland MU15 cap at FAI Headquarters. Ike received his cap from interim Irish Senior Men’s Team manager John O’Shea with Irish coaches Glenn Whelan and Paddy McCarthy in attendance.

Hoping to follow is Ike’s shoes are 3 members of our MU14 squad, Ross Ryan, Josh Daly and Conor Kennedy who took part in an U15 National Assessment at International Development Day on June 15th.

Five of our Treaty United Carelon academy teams were in action this weekend as the EA Sports League of Ireland Academy resumed after the break for state exams. Two sides, our WU17s and MU17s were in league action, while our MU14, MU15 and WU19 teams kicked off their respective national cup campaigns. We had 3 wins and 2 narrow defeats across the weekend.

We had two teams in action on Saturday.

WU17

First into action were our WU17s who hosted DLR Waves in a crucial league game in The Manor Fields in Adare. Treaty United had emerged 5-1 winners when the sides met earlier in the season in Dublin.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Niamh Kinahan, Kate Jones, Emma Meaney, Chloe Wallace, Kristina Bokmane (C), Saoirse Kent, Madison McGuane, Kate Lee, Grace Ehinger, Mioda O’Shea, Rachel O’Shea,

Subs:

Chloe Widger, Aideen Riedy, Ciara Breslin, Ewelina Stankevituite, Summer Behan, Ava Neary

Result:

Treaty United 6 DLR Waves 1

Our WU17 had a big win in their home game against DLR Waves. This was the 1st win for new manager Sean Russell and keeps the Treaty girls right in the mix to qualify for the elite phase of the league with only 2 games to go.

WU17 Squad for home game against DLR Waves

It was a game that could have finished 10-3 but for some missed chances and good goalkeeping from both sides. We got our passing game going from the start and looked assured, composed & in control. That passing game led to our 1st goal after a move that built from the back then saw an excellent through ball from Madison McGuane which was cooly slotted home by Saoirse Kent after 9 mins. That goal inspired the girls and following a high press the ball broke to Grace Ehinger who curled home our 2nd on 22 mins. Madison McGuane was everywhere in the 1st half and scored a great individual goal on 35 mins when she cut in from the right, breezed past the DLR defender and then placed a left footer beyond the reach of the diving DLR keeper to give us a 3-nil lead which is how it stayed until half time.

On a very hot day using the bench was always going to be necessary and Treaty took the opportunity to make a number of changes at half time. The substitutes certainly hit the ground running with Ewelina Stankeviciute running on to yet another Madison McGuane through ball to bury our 4th on 55 mins. You have to give credit to DLR Waves for their spirit and resiliency and their heads did not go down at any stage in a game which saw their goalkeeper go off injured early on and where they saw Treaty push on ruthlessly for goals. DLR dug in and created a number of chances themselves but Treaty keeper Niamh Kinehan was up to the test until eventually they got some reward for their efforts when their centre forward C O’Brien scored a close range header from a super right wing cross to bring the score to 4-1. This seemed to spur the Treaty girls back into life and they added to their tally soon after when Ciara Breslin ran onto an excellent pass behind the defensive line from Ewelina and finished confidently in the bottom corner on 87 minutes. 3 minutes later saw probably the best of the goals when Treaty were awarded a free kick 20 yards from the DLR goals after Rachel O’Shea was fouled outside the box and Ewelina stepped up with a sublime shot which nestled in the top left hand corner of the goals for our 6th and final goal.

Overall this was a great win for Treaty with some excellent performances especially from Chloe Wallace in defence, captain Kristina Bokmane in midfield and of course the highly impressive Madison McGuane in attacking midfield. Next up is a big mid-week away game against Sligo Rovers where Treaty will look to pick up where they left off on Saturday with goals and a confident performance.

MU15

Next into action were our MU15s who kicked off their EA Sports Michael Hayes Cup campaign with a home tie against Bray Wanderers in the Manor Fields in Adare.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Darragh Van Veen, Jordan Brown, Conor O’Mahony, Sean Potter, Christian Stack, Dylan Browne, Xavier O’Nialagain (C), Bryan Parish, Aaron Cobbs-Sarko, Nathan Robinson, Patrick Edroso

Subs:

Unai Ngache, Darragh Kirwan

Result:

Treaty United 1 Bray Wanderers 2

The MU15s made their exit from the Michael Hayes Cup in the First Round when they fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Bray Wanderers on Saturday. The MU15s were missing a total of 9 players between injuries and holidays and were only able to field 2 players on the bench.

The visitors took the lead in the 34th minute from the penalty spot to take a 1 goal lead into the break. Treaty United got back on level terms early in the second half when Dylan Browne coolly slotted home from 6 yards for his 13th goal of the season. However, Bray regained the lead on the hour mark and held out to record a narrow victory.

Next up for the MU15s is the start of the EA Sports MU15 Elite Phase when they host Shelbourne at The Manor Fields on Saturday at 4.30PM..

On Sunday, we had 3 of our academy teams in action.

WU19

First up were our WU19s who kicked off their LOI Academy WU19 Group A Cup game against Bray Wanderers in the Manor Fields.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Chloe Widger, Katelynn O’Dwyer Guerin (C), Sophie McIlrath, Molly Lane, Ella Carey, Rhianne Ryan, Vittoria Rainusso, Sadbh Griffin, Jayne Ryan, Lisa Coen, Abbey Walsh

Subs:

Naoise Griffin, Avril Tangri, Judith Egan, Holly O’Brien, Ailbhe O’Connell, Jenna Murphy

Result:

Treaty United 1 Bray Wanderers 0

Our WU19 squad were back up and running last week after the exam break and the first test back for us was a visit from Bray Wanderers in the Cup.

Conditions on the day were very warm and this can seem amplified on an all weather pitch. However, both teams put in a big effort throughout.

We started brightly and played quite a bit of football in the oppositions half. Rhianne Ryan capitalised on this spell by scoring in the 8th minute, her corner kick whipped in with pace and proved to be a difficult one for Bray to deal with.

Unfortunately, we allowed Bray back into the game through some sloppy play in possession but credit to Bray they really did grow into the contest.

Our squad was light on numbers due to injuries and holidays and this proved to be a challenge for us as we had to see out the last 25 minutes of football with just 10 players. Vittoria Rainusso had to step out of the action with a leg injury but the 10 players on the pitch really dug in and not only saw out the game to keep the score at 1-0, but perhaps were a little bit unlucky not to increase the margin with some big chances in the latter stages. Bray Wanderers introduced Mellon for the last 20 minutes and she pulled off 2 top saves which was so impressive to see a keeper step in and make such a big impact immediately.

Back to the drawing board again this week with another big effort to get our levels back to where we need them. We prepare for a trip to Sligo Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

MU14

Our MU14s travelled to Cobh to take on Cobh Ramblers in the EA Sports MU14 Eddie Wallace Cup.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Ross Ryan, Evan Hogan, Jordan Brown (C), Sam Newman, Joshua Daly, Liam Flynn, Ben Doumbouya, Conor Kennedy, Mighty Odudu, Conor Campbell, Wisdom Amaeze

Subs:

Daniel O’Connell, Emmett Hawkins, Sean Casey, Konrad Miskiewicz

Result:

Cobh Ramblers 2 Treaty United 1

Our MU14s returned from the summer break in an away fixture vs Cobh Ramblers. Treaty looked to control the game through a possession based style of football while the physical Cobh side were hoping to capitalise on mistakes through counter attacks. Cobh broke the deadlock midway through the 1st third. Some brilliant solo work by Conor Kennedy had the sides level soon after as he danced his way past 3 defenders before cooly slotting home the equaliser.

In the middle third Cobh took the lead as they bundled home following a loose ball bouncing in the penalty area. The game changed as Cobh looked to impose their physical advantages on the game. Treaty were unable to take any of the chances they created and Cobh ran out eventual winners.

MU17

Our MU17s hosted Kerry FC in the Manor Fields in their penultimate game in Group C of the EA Sports MU17 LOI Academy. Our MU17s had recorded a 3-1 victory when the sides met earlier in the season in Mounthawk. This was a crucial game for The MU17s to keep their hope of Elite Phase qualification alive.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Wall, Ike Manjor, Brandon Long, Matt Jones (C), Charlie Campbell, Michael Mulcahy, Alex Omoruyi, Patrick Ryan, Tony Hourigan, Danny Lyne, Sean Costelloe

Subs:

Joey Nwankwo, Jack Keogh, Jamie Faulkner, Conor Crofton, Scott Murphy, Kieran Doyle

Result:

Treaty United 3 Kerry FC 0

Treaty MU17s returned to action after the short summer break with a home fixture vs Kerry FC. Treaty took the initiative from the get go and maintained it throughout the 90mins.

Treaty failed to convert early chances but finally made the breakthrough in the 31st minute when Danny Lyne curled the ball in to the far top corner. The game continued in the same manner for the rest of the half with Treaty creating chances and dominating possession.

Treaty started the second half well and continued to probe for more goals but to no avail. It took until the 84th minute for Treaty to score a deserved second goal. Goalkeeper Conor Wall playing a goal kick past the opposition defence for Jamie Faulkner to latch on to. Jamie maintained his cool to slot home the important second goal. Treaty rounded out the scoring in the 91st minute from the spot after some excellent work in the box from Kieran Doyle lead to the spot kick being awarded. Charlie Campbell slotted home coolly to wrap up an excellent day for the home side.
