A Fan For All Seasons

Fan Travels over 5000km to see Treaty United after Discovering them on Football Manager

There are many reasons for becoming a fan of a team. The most obvious one is that the club is from your home place, so supporting them is a natural extension of where you are from. Alternatively, the club you support could have a long and storied history which attracts supporters from all around the world. Or, the club could have been very successful in recent times and being part of that success is something that attracts you. Or maybe, it is individual players that have led you to following the club. But what if the club is thousands of miles away, is in existence for little over 4 years and has yet to capture its first trophy. Simple. Football Manager!

Lindsey Ansbro of Owega, New York State, USA bought herself a copy of Football Manager last December and decided to start a managerial career on the platform. For some reason, which we think is utterly inspired, Lindsey decided to launch her managerial career with Treaty United. As a result, Lindsey became a fan of the real team with Willie Armshaw being adopted as her favourite player. So, when Lindsey came to visit a cousin here in Ireland and attend a wedding in Kinsale last month, she knew that she had to take the opportunity to go see the team in person. And as luck would have it, Treaty were in the same neck of the woods as Lindsey with a league game scheduled against Cork City in Turners Cross.

As a result, Lindsey joined other Treaty United fans in supporting the team against the table-toppers and helped to cheer them on to a creditable 1-1 draw. And to round out the night, Lindsey got to meet the Treaty United players after the game with the highlight being a chat with Willie Armshaw.

Lindsey says that the Treaty United team in Football Manager is on the up. When asked about the real team, Lindsey says that we have a very young squad, that we’ll get there and there is no reason to rush perfection. We think Lindsey has got managerial potential.
