Treaty United

A Tony McNamee goal on Friday night condemned Treaty United to a fifth defeat in nine games.

Three goals scored in the last eight games is perhaps best explained by a long list of absentees including record goalscorer Enda Curran in recent weeks and now his strike partner Yoyo Mahdy also.

Key players have also been missing in defence and midfield.

Tommy Barrett will be hoping a morale boosting home win at the Markets Field can see the team navigate its way out of this difficult period.

Athlone Town

The midlanders salvaged a valuable point away to Wexford on Friday night after falling two goals behind.

They sit in fifth place.

The last time the sides met, Dario Castelo’s men were in eighth and Treaty were in fourth.

The tide has certainly turned with Athlone now positioned in the last play-off spot and Treaty occupying eighth.

Past Meetings

These two sides have met on 12 occasions. Treaty have held the upper hand in the past with seven wins to Athlone Town’s two.

However, the games are not without drama. There was heartbreak for Treaty last season at Lissywollen. After taking a 2-0 lead through an Enda Curran double, the Limerick side looked set to take all three points but a late fightback from 10-man Athlone, that included an equaliser in the eighth minute of stoppage time, earned a point for the home team.

The next match between the two sides also featured late drama as a first half Pierrot strike was made redundant by an equaliser from Lee Devitt and a stunning team goal finished off by Marc Ludden.

Treaty’s return to Lissywollen in June was a much better occasion for the visiting fans as Enda Curran and Wille Armshaw earned a 2-0 win for the Limerick side.

Treaty supporters will remember one of the club’s most impressive away performances to date, a 4-1 victory at Lissywollen. Ed McCarthy, Jack Lynch, Seán McSweeney and Marc Ludden all found the net in the July 2021 encounter.

Treaty ran out 4-1 winners at the Markets Field in September to complete an unbeaten season against the midlanders.

The sides last met on April 1st. An Aaron Connolly goal after 17 minutes was enough to give Athlone the three points.
