Academy Report: 20-21 April

Five of our 6 Academy teams were in action this weekend in the EA Sports League of Ireland Academy with the MU20s having a free weekend. Pride of place this weekend goes to our MU17s who moved to the top of the LOI MU17 Group C table.

MU15

First into action on Saturday were our MU15s who were away to Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds Astroturf pitch. This was a reverse fixture to a game played back in February when we came away with a 2-0 home victory. The MU15s went into this game with an unbeaten start to the season and topping Group C.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

D. Van Veen, S. Meere, C. O’Mahony, K. Dempsey, S. Potter, J. Cregan, D. Power, Xavier O’Nialagain, A. Cobbs-Sarko, B. Parish, D. Kirwan

Subs:

R. Ryan, C. Stack, U. Aguniagalde Ngache, E. Coulter, P. Edroso, S. Ajulari, R. Farmer, N. Robinson

Result:

Sligo Rovers 3 Treaty United 1

The MU15s started well and took the lead just after the half hour mark when Christian Stack scored his 4th of the season. However, Sligo equalised before half time to send the sides in level at half time. Midway through the second half, Sligo grabbed two goals in quick succession and end the MU15s unbeaten start to the season. The result, coupled with Galway United’s victory, means the MU15s are joined at the top of the table by Galway United.

The MU15s will be at FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown next weekend as they take part in the EA Sports LOI MU15 Development Weekend.

WU17

Next up, it was the turn of our WU17s who hosted Galway United in the Manor Fields in Adare. The WU17s were coming into this game on the back of an excellent 5-1 away victory against DLR Waves which moved them to second in the table.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Niamh Kinnehan, Emma Meaney, Chloe Wallace, Ava Neary, Aibhlinn Cotter, Kristina Bokman, Kate Jones, Madison McGuane,  Saoirse Kent, Ciara Breslin, Grace Ehinger.

Subs:

Aine Bonfil, Mioda O’Shea, Ewelina Stankevituite,  Kate Lee, Aideen Riedy, Summer Behan Sick

Result:

Treaty United 1 Galway United 0

It was great seeing Irish underage international, Chloe Wallace get a full 90 minutes after much injury and illness has interrupted game time this season to date. Our back line of Emma Meaney, Chloe Wallace, Ava Neary and Aibhlinn Cotter did a solid job at keeping the opposition at bay. Our hard working midfield trio of Kristina Bokman, Kate Jones and Madison McGuane did a superb job both defensively and servicing our attacking threat of Saoirse Kent, Ciara Breslin and Grace Ehinger.

Super sub and game winner, Ewelina Stankevituite made a great run from an exceptional Grace Ehinger assist. The ball fell to Ehinger deep into our own half in the 83rd minute from a Chloe Wallace clearance. Ehinger took it on a dribble, looked up to find Stankeviute and released with a sublime outside of the boot through ball for Stankevite to take a first time finish past the Galway keeper.

Goalkeeper, Niamh Kinnehan, denied the visitors an equaliser in the dying minutes of the game with an incredible goal-line save when the Galway attack found themselves free 5 yards in front of goal from an impressive low cross from wide beyond our defence into the box.

It was a hard fought win over a good Galway United team. Both sides had a number of chances to seal a victory.

Next up for the WU17s is a trip to St Patrick Athletics on this coming Saturday.

Sunday saw three of our academy teams in action at home.

WU19

Our WU19s hosted table-toppers Wexford FC at the Manor Fields in a game which was the reverse of a fixture back in March where we fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat in Ferrycarrig.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Jenna Murphy, Holly O’Brien, Molly Lane, Sadbh Griffin, Katelynn O’Dwyer Guerin, Ella Carey, Yanna Leahy, Jayne Ryan, Naoise Griffin, Vittoria Rainusso, Abbey Walsh

Subs:

Siobhán McMahon, Judith Egan, Aisling Hardiman, Lisa Coen, Libby Costelloe, Avril Tangri, Sophie McIlrath, Rhianne Ryan, Ailbhe O’Connell

Result:

Treaty United 1 Wexford FC 3

This was a tough game for our crew with 6 players picking up injuries during the game. Jenna has a suspected concussion and we hope she has a speedy recovery. We had good performances from Katelynn, Holly and Naoise while the whole team worked tirelessly in warm conditions. Our goal came from Lisa who really made a good impact as an attacking substitute in the second half.

Next up for the WU19s is a trip to St Coleman’s Park next Sunday to take on Cobh Ramblers.

MU17

At the same time, our MU17s were in action in UL North Campus against Cobh Ramblers. They went into this game on the back of an excellent 3-1 away victory over league leaders Kerry FC which moved them up to second in the table.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Conor Crofton, Tony Hourigan, Brandon Long, Danny Lyne, Cullen Wiegand, Jack Keogh, Matt Jones, Charlie Campbell, Michael Mulcahy, Fionn Higgins, Tiernan Adelu

Subs:

Colin Healy, Ike Manjor, Patrick Ryan, Kieran Doyle, Joey Nwankwo, Jamie Faulkner, Alex Omoruyi, Darragh Van Veen

Result:

Treaty United 4 Cobh Ramblers 3

The MU17s secured 3 points at home Cobh Ramblers to move top of Group C in the LOI MU17s League. Having found themselves 3-1 down with 20 minutes to go, despite having the majority of possession and chances, Treaty fought back to secure a good 3 points. 3 goals in the space of 5 mins between the 75th and 80th minute turned the game on its head. Tiernan Adelu kicked it off and one minute later substitute Colin Healy had the teams on level terms.  Tiernan then grabbed the winner with his 8th goal of the season.  Treaty’s first half strike came from Matt Jones. Kerry FC’s defeat to Cork City meant that the Treaty boys opened up a one point lead at the top of the table.

The MU17s are in action again next Sunday when they host Wexford FC in the Manor Fields in Adare.

MU14

Our final team in action at the weekend were our MU14s who hosted Galway United in the Manor Fields.

Our lineup for the game was as follows:

Starting 11:

Ross Ryan, Evan Hogan, Jordan Brown, Sam Newman, Joshua Daly, Conor Kennedy, Mighty Odudu, Ben Doumbouya, James Palache, Mieszko Kurylonski, Wisdom Amaeze

Subs:

Daniel O’Connell, Conor Campbell, Emmett Hawkins

Result:

Treaty United 0 Galway United 4

The MU14 squad is quite depleted with injuries at the moment. Overall  the performance was below the standards that the squad has previously set for itself but credit must be given to Galway United who were extremely aggressive from the first minute to the last and played at a brilliant intensity while maintaining organisation. We are a bit disappointed with the nature of the goals that we conceded but overall didn’t do enough to win the game.

The MU14s have no game next weekend with their next game on May 5th away to Mayo FC.
