The Teams
Treaty United
It was another strong display from Dominic Foley’s Treaty United side last Saturday as they put their first points on the board in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup.
Erin Van Dolder’s second goal for the club in as many appearances put Treaty into the lead, but it was short-lived as Aine O’Gorman struck within ten minutes to level the game. Treaty will be disappointed at the manner in which possession was coughed up leading to the goal; something that the side are likely to have worked on in the build-up to Saturday’s rematch.
Dominic Foley spoke in the aftermath of last Saturday about how his high press of the opposition helped them to pick up a result, and that is likely to be the game plan this Saturday as Treaty look to pick up three points against the odds.
Shamrock Rovers
Shamrock Rovers’ quest for a first win continues after their third successive 1-1 draw last weekend.
Manager Collie O’Neill will be disappointed with his side dropping points against Treaty United considering the previous joy they had over them, but that result will be put in the rear-view mirror as they get back to the bread-and-butter of league football.
A positive for Rovers is that goalkeeper Amanda Budden made her first appearance of the season on Saturday and put in a very strong 45 minute performance with some great saves. She could potentially make a full return on Saturday which would be a big boost for The Hoops.
Rovers have won ten of their fourteen home games since deciding to return to women’s senior football, however they haven’t won in their last three at Tallaght Stadium. Considering some of the big games that Rovers have coming down the tracks, there will be pressure on The Hoops to pick up three points.
Previous Encounters
Treaty United recorded their first ever result against the league’s newcomers last week, having fallen to defeat in their two previous meetings.
Shamrock Rovers were comfortable 6-0 winners when the sides first met at Tallaght Stadium last March.
The sides met again last November in front of the TG4 cameras at the Markets Field, with the visitors running out 4-1 winners. Orlagh Fitzpatrick grabbed Treaty’s only goal.
