LONGFORD TOWN V TREATY UNITED

Treaty United

A 2-2 draw away to Bray Wanderers was followed by an impressive 4-1 defeat of Athlone Town last week as Success Edogun showed his class with a goal and Stephen Christopher hit a double after a Marc Ludden penalty had opened the scoring for Treaty.

That win kept Treaty’s chances of a play-off spot alive and mathematically there is still a chance but, with just four games and 12 points left to play for and the club currently lying eight points behind Athlone in fifth, a turnaround would be one of the stories of the season.

Treaty will be without the injured Jordon Tallon and Enda Curran.

Longford Town

The situation for Longford is almost exactly the same. They are eight points behind Athlone Town and just edge Treaty on goal difference. They haven’t won since a surprise victory over Galway United in early September.

Past Meetings

Treaty’s first ever win against Longford came last July in their third meeting. Enda Curran scored two off the bench after Marc Ludden had given the home side the lead.

Last time out saw the most exciting encounter between the clubs. A Lee Devitt free kick found its way past former Treaty United netminder Jack Brady at the Markets Field before Francis Campbell equalised. The home side regained the advantage when substitute Success Edogun scored a rocket in the 55th minute.

However, Josh Giurgi pounced on some confusion in the Treaty box to bring Longford back into the game. In the 83rd minute Dean George sealed the win for Treaty after a save by Brady, from a Conor Barry close range effort, landed kindly for the forward. It was Treaty’s first win of the season.

Longford Town avenged that defeat with a 3-2 scoreline at the Markets Field in August with a late double from Cristian Magerusan sealing the points.
