Treaty United

A 2-2 draw away to Bray Wanderers last time out has kept play-off hopes alive but a win is a must against Athlone Town if a third successive qualification for the end of season promotion knock-outs is to happen.

A stunner from the in-form Success Edogun and a first ever Treaty goal for Mark Walsh secured a point following a run of disappointing defeats to Cobh and Wexford at the Carlisle Grounds.

Tommy Barrett will not be helped in this home fixture by injuries which have kept some of his best players sidelined. Enda Curran and Jordon Tallon are out.

Sean Guerins (head) and Willie Armshaw (ankle) are doubtful.

Athlone Town

The oldest club in the league look comfortable in the play-off positions but now is not the time for slip-ups with the games running out fast.

Results have been up and down in recent weeks but Dario Castelo’s side have been doing just enough to keep themselves in the mix in what will be viewed as a very successful season.

Striker Frantz Pierrot has hit the back of the net 20 times this season, second only to Waterford’s Ronan Coughlan, and has given Treaty problems this season in previous meetings. He will have to be closely watched.

Past Meetings

These two sides have met on 10 occasions. Treaty have held the upper hand in the past with six wins to Athlone Town’s one. However, there was heartbreak for Treaty earlier in the season at Lissywollen. After taking a 2-0 lead through an Enda Curran double, the Limerick side looked set to take all three points but a late fightback from 10-man Athlone, that included an equaliser in the eighth minute of stoppage time, earned a point for the home team.

The next match between the two sides also featured late drama as a first half Pierrot strike was made redundant by an equaliser from Lee Devitt and a stunning team goal finished off by Marc Ludden.

Treaty’s return to Lissywollen in June was a much better occasion for the visiting fans as Enda Curran and Wille Armshaw earned a 2-0 win for the Limerick side.

Treaty supporters will remember one of the club’s most impressive away performances to date, a 4-1 victory at Lissywollen. Ed McCarthy, Jack Lynch, Seán McSweeney and Marc Ludden all found the net in the July 2021 encounter.
