Treaty United

Last week’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Wexford FC has been tempered somewhat by three new signings.

Defender Dean O’Shea and midfielder Adam Lennon will bolster Tommy Barrett’s outfield options, while goalkeeper Corey Chambers provides experience following the departure of Shane Hallahan due to work commitments.

Willie Armshaw, Jordon Tallon and Marc Ludden are all currently struggling with injuries. Enda Curran is also a doubt due to illness.

Darren Nwankwo returns following a one-game ban.

Longford Town

It’s been a disappointing season for Longford Town so far but such is the nature of the First Division they are still in with a chance of a play-off spot if they can put together a run of form.

Inconsistency has dogged the midlanders in recent weeks. A creditable 2-2 draw with Waterford was followed by a 2-1 victory over Kerry. However, they exited the cup to St Patrick’s Athletic and defeat to Cobh at home last week halted momentum yet again.

The club announced the signing of midfielder Charles Mutawe last week.

Past Meetings

The clubs have faced each other on six occasions with Treaty United currently unbeaten. Treaty have three wins and three draws have been played out.

Treaty’s first ever win against Longford came last July in their third meeting. Enda Curran scored two off the bench after Marc Ludden had given the home side the lead.

Earlier this season saw the most exciting encounter between the clubs. A Lee Devitt free kick found its way past former Treaty United netminder Jack Brady at the Markets Field before Francis Campbell equalised. The home side regained the advantage when substitute Success Edogun scored a rocket in the 55th minute.

However, Josh Giurgi pounced on some confusion in the Treaty box to bring Longford back into the game. In the 83rd minute Dean George sealed the win for Treaty after a save by Brady, from a Conor Barry close range effort, landed kindly for the forward. It was Treaty’s first win of the season.

The last encounter between the sides at Bishopsgate was a feisty affair with two sendings off. Former Treaty netminder Brady was dismissed for a clash with Enda Curran after the striker converted a penalty. Ben O’ Riordan was also sent off just seconds before the final whistle after Curran and Stephen Christopher had put the result beyond doubt for the visitors.
