Treaty United

The cup provides some respite from the slog of league football for the Limerick-based side who reached the semi final last season before bowing out to Derry City.

Treaty recorded a comfortable 3-2 win away to Kerry in their last league game, a shot in the arm for play-off hopes, with goals from Enda Curran, Marc Ludden and Dean George sealing the points.

Prior to this, an Enda Curran wondergoal and William Armshaw strike saw the Mid-West club come away from Athlone with three very welcome points in the first game following the mid-season break.

An early Bray Wanderers goal caught Treaty cold in the next game at the Markets Field but Tommy Barrett’s men rallied with another fine finish from top goal scorer Curran to salvage a point.

Last week’s league game against Waterford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Treaty completed the signing of old boy Sean Guerins last week, a welcome addition at the back.

Cork City FC

It’s been a difficult return to the top division for Cork City FC as they struggle to secure their top flight status. They sit second from bottom.

It’s also a period of change at the club with Dermot Usher overseeing his first season as owner and Colin Healy leaving as manager early in the season. An interim management team led by Liam Buckley is in place for the rest of the campaign.

City are five games without a win. Their last outing was a 3-0 defeat at Sligo Rovers.

The Leesiders have won the cup on four occasions, most recently in 2017.

Past Meetings

The first competitive meeting between the sides ended in victory for league new boys Treaty United who sealed victory with a Matt Keane winner in the 78th minute.

The Limerick-based side went the remainder of the 2021 season unbeaten in the derby with a 3-2 victory at Turners Cross and a 0-0 draw at the Markets Field.

The following season was not so kind to Treaty in the fixture as a push for promotion back to the top flight saw Cork City invest well in their squad and they secured some comprehensive victories against Treaty.

However, there was a glimmer of light among the heavy defeats as Treaty secured a memorable 2-0 victory at Turners Cross through a thunderbolt from Ben O’Riordan and a Marc Ludden penalty in the final meeting between the sides of the 2022 season.
