Treaty United

The Limerick-based side are coming into the game on a high after two wins over the Bank Holiday weekend that has seen them move into 8th place in the league and puts them just three points off the playoff spots.

A commanding performance against Kerry last Friday night saw Treaty take the three points with a 4-0 victory courtesy of goals from Dean George, in-form striker Success Edogun (2) and Ben O’Riordan.

This was followed up with an even more impressive away performance against Bray Wanderers that saw the Shannonsiders control large parts of the game and come away with a 3-0 victory with Enda Curran converting a penalty and Willie Armshaw netting a brace.

Athlone Town

The oldest club in the league also come into this fixture in excellent form. A 3-0 home victory over Wexford was followed up with a 4-1 away to Finn Harps. These games followed a second half rally away to Waterford last month that saw Athlone came back from 4-0 down to 4-3 against the second-placed side. Coach Dario Castelo will be hoping his side can take a positive result from the Markets Field where they are yet to win since Treaty entered the League of Ireland in 2021.

Forward Frantz Pierrott has scored 6 in his last three outings including a hattrick against Wexford at home and a brace in Ballybofey.

Past Meetings

These two sides have met on eight occasions. Treaty have held the upper hand in the past with four wins to Athlone Town’s one. However, there was heartbreak for Treaty earlier in the season at Lissywollen. After taking a 2-0 lead through an Enda Curran double, the Limerick side looked set to take all three points but a late fightback from 10-man Athlone, that included an equaliser in the eighth minute of stoppage time, earned a point for the home team.

Treaty supporters will remember one of the club’s most impressive away performances to date, a 4-1 victory at Lissywollen. Ed McCarthy, Jack Lynch, Seán McSweeney and Marc Ludden all found the net in the July 2021 encounter.
