Treaty United

Treaty United will be hoping it is fifth time lucky in their bid to get a first win of the season. Having picked up a point away to Kerry FC, Tommy Barrett’s charges were hit with a 3-0 loss at home to Cobh Ramblers the following week. Despite Treaty being in the game for the first hour, Cobh opened the scoring with a dubious goal and struck twice more on the counter in a game where the scoreline did not totally reflect the performance. Having opened his account at Mounthawk Park, Enda Curran will be hoping to add to his tally against his former side on Friday.

The Opposition

Athlone Town started the season like a house on fire scoring six goals across wins over Longford Town and Finn Harps, but have been kept scoreless since then with defeats at the hands of Wexford FC and Waterford FC. Scoring has never been a problem for the Midlanders but stopping the concession of goals has been an issue as evidenced by their last clean sheet coming in September of 2022. Haitian native Frantz Pierrot had an eventful debut for Athlone on the opening night as he scored twice and was sent off in a derby victory over Longford Town. Having shown great potential in the opening night, he will be one worth watching at Lissywollen.

Words From Players and Management:

Manager Tommy Barrett – “Obviously its another tough game and we have a couple of injuries with some senior players out. It’s the first of three games in a week and its something we always welcome, plenty of matches is good for the younger players in particular to get some game time. Hopefully we can get some results this week starting with Athlone tomorrow night. Its going to be tough as they have signed very well and finished last season strongly. They’ve brought in a lot of foreign imports in the off-season who seem to have hit the ground running, they ran Waterford close and beat Harps and Longford already so they are obviously a good side. Its going to be a difficult task for us but we’re hoping to get our first win up there.”

Captain Marc Ludden – “Its a big game for us, we need to go back to basics and be hard to beat. Last week’s 3-0 loss was never a 3-0 game. We were on top for 60 minutes but then let in some soft goals. Tomorrow it’s back to basics.”

Past Meetings

These two sides have met seven times previously with four wins for Treaty United, two draws and one victory for Athlone Town. While Treaty ran riot in their first ever trip to Athlone Town Stadium in July of 2021, their last two trips to that venue have seen some of the side’s poorer performances result in a draw and a loss.
