The Teams

Treaty United

Sitting in 8th place on 17 points, Treaty United are off the back of two defeats in four days and will be glad of a week’s rest before Saturday’s fixture against Athlone. On Wednesday of last week, Treaty went down 4-1 away to Galway United on a night where Dominic Foley’s side showed the effects of playing their second game in five days. Last Saturday Treaty travelled to the capital to take on Shelbourne and were fortunate to be down 3-0 at the break, but Treaty rallied in the second half and put on a good show with the game finishing 4-2 to the hosts.

Dominic Foley will take solace from last Saturday’s second half performance and, combined with a week’s rest, will look to build upon that and stage an upset against Athlone Town. Danielle Steer continues to go from strength to strength in a Treaty United shirt as she grabbed her third goal in as many games on Saturday, bringing her goal tally to eight goals in ten outings. She has been a huge part of the Treaty United side since making her debut in July and will look to continue in that vein on Saturday.

In terms of team news, Erin Van Dolder will return from suspension for Saturday while Dominic Foley is hopeful of having Mara McCleary available for selection having picked up a shoulder injury against Galway United. Katie Irwin picked up a finger injury in Wednesday’s defeat to Galway and was replaced halfway through Saturday’s meeting with Shelbourne, so Annie Ulliac could very well start between the sticks on Saturday.

Athlone Town

Sitting in 1st place on 37 points, Athlone Town will know that nothing but three points will be acceptable on Saturday as they continue their bid to clinch a first ever Women’s Premier Division title. Ciaran Kilduff’s side picked up a big 4-0 win at home to Cork City on Saturday night with all four cracking goals coming in the second period. It marks four wins in a row for his side and they will look to make that five with a clean sweep against Treaty United on Saturday.

Cameroonian striker Brenda Tabe has been sensational since joining the Midlanders in late-July, scoring in each of their last four games in all competitions. The 20-year-old was a nuisance when they met Treaty United in the FAI Cup but was well marshalled by Mara McCleary on the day, something that Athlone will look to counter should the Canadian feature on Saturday. Madie Gibson, who scored two and assisted one against Cork City, is another player to look out for on the night and is one of the standout players in the league.

Previous Encounters

Saturday marks the thirteenth meeting between the sides as well as the third and final time the sides will meet in 2024. The Midlanders won by the odd goal both home and away in the league and FAI Cup respectively this season, while Treaty will be looking to pick up their first result against Athlone since June of 2021.

Treaty United Wins – 0

Draws – 2
